The old block plate covered the entire opening of the bell housing as the bell housing sat flush against the block.
I ordered a new block plate because the old block plate did not allow the bell housing to sit flush against the block because of the new 7 quart oil pan.
I installed the new block plate and bell housing, the new block plate does not cover the whole bell housing opening. So if your looking at the front of the engine and look down the side of the oil pan there will be openings on both sides of the bell housing where the bell housing meets the block.
Now the engine has been out of my car for six years, and im finally putting it back together and im going of memory. Should these openings be covered or is it ok. It seems that water and dirt would get inside of the bell housing. Am I missing something please help.
