Ok so let me start. I am going to have to have whatever I buy installed. This will be for my 01 GT Auto. I can budget about 4k to the kit.

Now what I am hoping for. Number one dependability. I don't want to have to rebuild for a little while. However it is mostly a street car and I want some more power down low. I am thinking roots is the way to go. Hoping to make at least 340 RWHP peak.

What do you suggest. Where can I get the best prices. Thanks for any help.

Check out a twin screw as well they're supposed to be more efficient.

Its gonna have to be used because there is no way you can buy a brand new one for 4k and have money left for install.

yeah with a 4K budget you can get the mongoose kit form MPH but its a centri style blower. But since you want power down low then you best bet is a KB but that is around over 4K for it

Since your first priority is reliability, I say go with the Vortech Mongoose kit from Tim at MPH. Its extremely reliable, comes with EVERYTHING needed and is well priced

I think a Centrifugal is more efficient than a twin screw. If you want to get some umph down low, you need another gear, especially with an auto. You can get away with a 3.73 and higher with that auto. Get out of the hole and up and running with the gear and then let the Centrifugal take over. A centrifugal is good because during normal driving it's running on low boost, until you get down on it. From red light to red light, a twin screw is the way to go. But I run into a lot of action on the Interstate when I'm already doing above 70mph.

the power down low argument is assinine in my opinion. even for street use. Is it that hard to grab another gear or launch abit higher?????

You can drive from California to New York without hitting boost with centris and and twin screws. Under "normal" driving, you don't hit any boost.

I drove my KB car 3 hours yesterday to my dyno tuner and never hit boost once. Usually stayed around 15 Vac. You don't have to hit boost all the time with a Twin screw. It's just there a lot quicker when you do want it than a Centrifugal blower. Mash the gas and haul some ass.

Let me clarify what i said. I wasn't saying that the Centri wouldn't be at boost and the TS would be. I'm sure under normal driving conditions both would be pretty calm in the boost area. But what i meant was that if you have a Centri and a TS putting out 12lbs of boost and you are doing 80mph on the freeway, the TS will be putting out more boost than a Centri. I TS could be putting out maybe 6lbs of boost, where a Centri maybe putting out 3lbs at the same speed.

It's all because of the 2 different types of SCs and where they make their boost. A Centri will hold off it's full boost longer because that's the nature of the beast. Take 2 identical cars but equip one with a TS and one with a Centri and they put out equal amounts of boost, from redlight to redlight the TS will spank the Centri. Now take the same two on the interstate and you're doing about 70mph and get down on it, that Centri will still be making boost all the way to redline and then some, whereas the TS has maxed out a little earlier in the RPMs.

But a Turbo will own both, with less boost...

Also, don't forget that the Vortech kit is ALOT cheaper and actually within your $4,000 budget that you mentioned. Just get a centri and some gears and enjoy the new found, reliable power

There ya go. And for good measures, throw in a 50-100hp hit of giggle juice... You can get a nice little kit for about $500+.

And Twin turbos will not only do that but spool to the full 8PSI @ about 3000RPMs . TURBOS!

Oh and the TS will hit full boots by around 2000RPMs...so 80MPH with those in 5th and you have the cability of hitting 12PSI. the TS is always working, but the bypass valve is bleeding the boost....but the centri is only spinning enough to hit like you said 3#s. Gas milage for the centrie should be higher.

But a 2000RPM romp in 5th gear, the TS will drive away from the centri and the turbos. Until I get to around 2700RPM that TS should be pulling me. Although I wouldnt race like that lol.

Ok now correct me if I am wrong but can't the KB non intercooled kit be bought for around 3800? Also if I bought that kit could I add a intercooler? Does it have to be the KB one? Same with a Vortech kit can an intercooler be added later?

The reason I want power down low is because I want stoplight to stoplight power.

Check out the KB site.....yes u have to use thier intercooler I am saving up for it right now.....all intercoolers can be added later....if you get the KB save up and just get the intercooler and do it right the first time....also If you get a 1.7 KB, it will never see above 500hp so they say....a vortech procharger or paxton can be better in that regard...if I want big power out of a KB, you have to get the 2.2 tuner kit....which I would have done, but my car came with a 1.7, which down the road will prob be sold and replaced
