Blower motor has died , easy replacement??

Is the blower motor an easy replacement or does the entire dash have to be pulled and the whole air box puled as well?? I'm hoping it can be replaced easily, never done one before

Be sure it's the blower motor first. It's about the same process as doing the heater core, I believe, if that's the problem. I seem to recall the switch has some resistor or something that go bad, making it appear the blower is dead. Could also be the relay for the blower motor. I'm trying to find a diagram of where the relay would be located, but I bet jrichker or stang&2birds have one.

+1 on making sure the motor is the actual problem. i just fixed my brothers car a couple days ago because his heat wouldn't blow. turns out it was an easy vacuum leak fix. i gave him a hard time because i don't know if he even knows how to pop the hood, and has been driving for months without heat, and i found the prob. and fixed it in under 5 min...

Gotta love that, I fixed my friends stang yesterday after a few minutes, after numerous people looking at it (i looked at it once before) and swapping computers, checking sensors, etc. Found out there was moisture in the distributor cap. The car OWNED us.

where was the vaccum leak at?

I will be sure to double check the blower first, I can just hook up 12V to the orange wire going to the motor to make sure it's working correct?

it' was on my old 93 cutlass cierra that i sold to him for $1, (which is why my stang is my DD now), but it was at a main line, right at the vacuum cannister. i actually just cut a 2" piece off my silicone hoses on my car, and spliced it onto his.

Yes, going across the Orange and Black would be like switching to high speed.

If it comes down to the blower and you need R&R instructions let me know. I can generate a pdf file. The R&R doesn't look too bad....at least on paper.

When I turne don my heater.. it wouldnt get hot but when it use to run you could smell something sweet almost like anti freeze. The unit it out now along with the dash, Guess I'll just open it up take it out. Fill it with water and see if it holds it.

The pdf currently only contains information on removal and replacing the blower box and assembly. It sounds like you have a heater core leak which is a much more involved fix.

You might want to check out some of the online references and search the board for some write-ups that some of the guys have done.

you got to go even farther then pulling the heater core, you have to pull the whole unit out to replace the blower motor...and without pulling the metal dash frame out i dont see you coud get to it.

its a pita to do.

a few pics i took from when i did mine 2 months ago

i followed the write up from musatngs monthly when i did mine, just bag and tag ur bolts, i didnt i just threw them in a metal pan and boy did i regreat that.

good luck getting the dash back onto the metal frame just right...its a pain to do!

Its not hard at all, just the same as doing a heater core instead now you pull the whole hvac box out to get to the fan on the backside.
