Okay, I know this sounds like a bit of a stupid question, but I have considered running a centrifugal blower (most likely a ProCharger) on my car as well as a small dose of nitrous. I see the Zex kit and it's awefully tempting, but my main dilemma is the effects of nitrous. I have heard and seen the negative effects of nitrous and it makes me a little weary of it.

Now, since I am planning on building my car as a SEMA vehicle, I'd like for it to be a little over the top. So my question is this: can the stock 4.6 stand up to the power of the ProCharger and a 75-100 shot of nitrous? I hear a lot of people saying that 500rwhp is kind of the limit on the stock internals, and with nitrous, the car would be at about 530-550rwhp, but only in short bursts. What do you more educated folks recommend?

I dont think most will know the answer to your question because of the newness of the engine and most guesses are based of the 2v 4.6 since it is simular bottom end

Most experts agree that the tune is the most important thing. Running 400hp with a bad tune is alot more dangerious than running 500hp with a good tune. The same enine that would hold up to the 500hp might not with the 400hp bad tune. I think most people here understand this.

What I dont understand is why people spend 6-8 grand on a properly tuned turbo or SC package and cant spent another $1500-$1800 for a nice set of rods, rings, and pistons. Then again I can replace pistons and rods myself and dont have to pay someone to do it.

Do it right and buy forged.

Going to forged internals would be ideal, but what's involved in doing it? I mean, I've had a forged rotating assembly put together for the big block in my Chevelle, but the engine itself is fairly low-tech. I have no experience with newer motors and computer controls. How involved would something like that be? I don't want the car in a shop for weeks and really don't have the time right now. Chances are, I will just go with the ProCharger. Everyone I have talked to so far at ProCharger says the new 4.6 is really strong and of the 5 test mules they beat on during testing, none of them had any engine problems whatsoever. I'll be sure to sleep on it though.

In my experince new motors are still the same ole motor that you are used to they just use electronics for air/fuel delivery versus a good ole carb. As long as you have a good tech manual that has all of the proper torque requirments and procedures then you should be able to rebuild it fairly easily.

Or spend 2000 on a stroker kit with forged parts.
