my brother owns a 95 turbo mustang gt. after having a graphite head gasket replaced two days ago, we blew it again the day we got it back with the same gasket. its currently running around 14lbs. of boost on a stock block and intake manifold.

we took the heads off and found every cyclinder fill with water. cylinders two and seven were filled with rust (upon inspecting the gaskets, thats where the gaskets were blown). there are several circular blemishes on the two cylinders mostly towards the top of the cyclinder. i don't have a digital camera to post pictures of the cylinders. to the touch, the surface is obviously uneven.

what im trying to find out is:
has anyone had a similar experience with a blown head gasket and damage to the cylinder walls similar to my description?
what causes these circular marks?
and can these be smoothed out with the shortblock still in the car with a ridge reemer?

right now, we are dead broke and are looking for economical solutions first. any advice would be helpful.

here are the modifications the engine has:
stock block and intake
custom made turbo kit
t76 turbo
spearco air/air intercooler
vortech bypass
tial wastegate
accel dfi gen VI
42lbs injectors
trex fuel pump
manual boost controller
93 intake manifold customized to work on 95 chassis
1.7 rockers
exhaust dumped in front of the front passenger tire

not good. i had a similar situation with my blown head gaskets, water in my cylinders rusted my rings to the pistons. if that is the case, time for rebuild. also a pitted cylinder wall is NOT good. it might be time for a rebuild. did you overheat the car?

the car didn't even start smoking until i pulled up in the driveway after only 3 runs getting on it in third gear only. as soon as i saw the smoke i checked the temp gauge and i saw it start to rise, but it didn't even reach over the halfway mark.

Head gaskets and seal!! 1st.. the rings in the cyl is from the coolant sitting in the cyl over nite or a period of time!! The cyl can take HUGE amounts of abuse and still function ( key word "function") Run the piston to the lowes point in the cyl. take a can of WD and clean all the yuck fron the cyl. Blow with air all around the top edge of the piston on the ring area. Get 320 sand paper and ruff the side of the cyl. dont get creative here.. just smooth the rust off the cyl. again, clean with WD and AIR. wipe all you can out and apply a small coat of engine oil to the cyl!! this will work and help get you "BY".. cool??

BOOSTING!! use a good gasket... Felpro 1011-1 or -2 !! when the engine is getting the rebuild... O-Ring the Deck of the block!! untill then , back down the boost!! Hell you know he wasnt hooking it up anyway... why blow another engine???

Just me..........................

i did manage to get a pretty smooth finish with minimal sanding. i'm still debating on building a new short block but i'll have to think about it some more. here's how it looks now:
