I've got a 93 Vert auto that is essentially bone stock. All I've done to it is put some muffs on and some subframes. I am very close to pulling the trigger and doing a head/intake/exhaust combo. I do not drag race, and am simply looking for a nice torquey 270ish RWHP fox.
I am interested in the GT40x kit that Blue Oval Industries sells on Ebay. It seems, to me, like the best bang for the buck. GT40x heads with 1.7RRs, E-cam, Cobra intake, ARP headbolts, and all the gaskets needed for $1799.00 plus about $109.00 for shipping. That'd be around $1900 for the whole setup. Add to that another $500 or so for some headers and an h-pipe and I should be pretty well off.
I've tried to see how I can do this cheaper, and while I could buy used, I don't know how much money I could really save.
So, my first question is: is this a good combo? What kind of real world gain should I see? Is 270rwhp doable with a completely stock ignition? Also, I probably will not do the cam swap, as I've heard bad things about the E-cam. Will a stock cam work well with this setup?
I am trying to do this as cheaply as possible, and since I don't ever plan to compete with the car, and want it purely for daily driver use, I really don't see the need to spend $1300 for AFRs or some radical head.
Ideas? Anyone buy this kit before? If so, was everything needed included? Were there still gaskets that were needed, or was it bolt on and run?
