as a long time fan, it's hard to get your hopes up for the Saints, but after last night and this season.... WOW

Yeah last night was one of those games that could have been even been more lopsided than the score was..

It was one of those games kind of like the tennesee/NE game where one team is playing perfect on both sides of the ball and the other teams is making mistake after mistake and just playing poorly.

I think in the long run this could be a good thing for the patriots since I have for a while now disagreed with the defensive philosophy they have gone with in the last few years.. I think they need to be more aggressive take chances change it up and try to pressure the qb more. Thats what the patriots defense USED TO BE.. now it's very vanilla. Maybe now they will try that.

the offense played poorly ( mostly brady playing poorly) but thats a aberration not something to be deeply concerned about.. It happens to everybody including great ones like brady.

I still think this patriots team has the potential to compete for a SB but they are not there right now. They have to somehow get pressure on the QB if they are going to compete against teams with great passers like brees.

Some times a bad loss can help you in the long run look at tennesee they got utterly destroyed in foxboro ( much much worse then what happened to NE last night) and they are 5-0 since.

BTW I have been listening to fellow pats fans on the radio all day that are ready to take a leap off the tobin... What they fail to understand is it don't matter in the long run as long as you get into the playoffs hot and you get your problems ironed out by then you have a chance. Look at the 07 giants, think back to week 12 2007 did any of you think the giants were going to win the SB..

How about the cards getting there last year, or the 2005 steelers winning it all on the road..

I could go on and on and on, just because indy and the saints and the vikes look like the best teams right now I would not go buy them SB tickets yet.. Sure any of those three teams have a very good chance but don't be surprised to see a team like the steelers or patriots get it together in december and make a run out of the 3 or 4 slot or even a wildcard slot in the steelers case. same goes for the NFC, maybe the giants or some other NFC team thats not playing up to potential goes on a tear and surprises everybody..

LOL after seeing the 2007 giants beat the 2007 patriots and seeing the frigging cards in the Sb last year ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

Wow ... I guess the SAINTS fans are feeling really good about themselves. Terrific game for the SAINTS and a humbling outing for the PATS. I'd hate to be next on their schedule. They might drop 50.

Good point Mike, about the 07 PATS ..... there is no regular season champs .... only Super Bowl champions.

They should feel good about their team.. They are playing solid football and brees played out of his mind. Their defense was able to get effective pressure.. overall very good outing for them. Plus they know they are going to be playing all their playoff games indoors that is HUGE for them and the colts as I am not convinced that either of those teams could win on the road in January at a place like NE or new york

I think the way to beat them is the same way you beat the pats and colts. You have to be able to disrupt the timing of the passing game.. The patriots did not even come close to disrupting the saints passing game while the saints was able to get enough pressure to disrupt the patriots.

Weather they can win outdoors in cold weather at this point is mute. It doesn't look like they are gonna have to. They earned their way to playing indoors so you can't take that away from them. Personally I think overall you still have the talent on those teams to win anywhere the way they are playing right now.

That being said, NE looked pretty helpless against the Saints Monday night. They tried different ways on D but just couldn't match up. N.O. has more personel sets than anyone in the league. That's really hard to match up against when the D has to try to adjust to an offense. You don't see that very often.

Also remember this. Indy beat Chicago in a driving rain in the SB. Advantage was clearly Chicago in that game for weather and that didn't matter.

I think in that case indy was a clearly superior team.. Who ever won the AFC was going to beat them.

You can't use one game to compare teams.. sure monday night the patriots looked horrible but just as I said about the tennesee game sometimes you get a game where one team plays perfect and the other plays terrible on the same night and thats what we had..

It's a aberration much like the 59-0 win ne had over tennesee.. NE can play tennesee 100 times and they never could duplicate that.

Same goes for this game, NO played perfect and NE played horrible if these teams played 10 times they would be fairly even with a slight edge to NO in that dome in my opinion.

I would feel the same way had NO beat the steelers like that..

That is the hardest thing to try to get people to understand you need to throw the extremes out when evaluating a football team.

My concern with the patriots is not due to the big plays in that game, that is not the norm it was a perfect storm type scenario and is not going to be what kills this team. My concern is they dont play well on the road.. 4 games is not something to be overlooked and they played fair to poor in 4 road games, that is a concern.. so is the lack of pressure on the QB they are getting on the road.

Honestly, NO didn't do anything to them they haven't done to anyone else this year. That's how I look at it and say this wasn't a fluke game by NE. They got their asses handed to them just like a lot of other teams have. I think this year NO is a better team than just about anyone has to offer in the AFC right now. But the season isn't over. If they can stay this hot, it's gonna be hard to beat them.

NO scored 27 against buffalo and 28 against st. louis I don't think those are better defenses then the patriots.. this is what I am trying to point out you can't take the results of one game as this team is that much better then that team.. NO can score a lot more points then 27 against buffalo but they did not for some reason.. Just like the NE defense is just as capable of holding the NO offense to under 30 like buffalo did but did not because brees played great and they did not execute..

I am going to give you another 2007 example. look at the regular season game against the giants the patriots put up a ton of points.. what did they do against the same giants defense in the SB? Not much... But what changed? The same group of players on both teams but much different results.. what changed is how well the giants defensive front played in that game.

I agree they are very good might just be the best team in the league right now.. I am not saying their win was a fluke at all... What I am saying is these teams are not that far apart.. Do you really think they are that much better than indy who played a very very close game with the patriots?

What i am saying is if these teams played this game 10 times NO would win most of them but the score would be a lot closer in some like the indy game and NE might even win a few .. the patriots played particularly bad in this game. I figure these teams to both score a lot of points and NE did not play well enough offensively to stay in the game and made a lot of defensive mistakes to make it worse.

What i am trying to explain is people fall into a what they saw last mentality with sports. they take the results of one game as absolute this team is X amount better than this team therefore they are going to do Y... you need to look at a lot more then a one sided game where one team played perfect football and the other made mistake after mistake.

I am not making excuses or trying to say my team is better because they are clearly not right now but what I am trying to point out is how perfect of a game NO played on both sides of the ball and that is hard to duplicate. in fact NO could have made it even more lopsided if they chose to.. it was their night and they played great and no matter what NE did NO would have beaten them.

Seriously did brees even make one off target throw in that game.. he completed some passes on really well defended plays but he got big results on them with a perfect throw.. the guy played AWESOME.. he did not miss a single mistake that the pats made I give him a ton of credit for that.

The NO defense did a GREAT job of keeping brady off balance.. But I do think some of that was just brady having a off night. All players in every sport have off days and slumps.. it happens and you just have to move on.

I'm just hoping this year could be the year for us to finally get into and ... possibly ... win... the SB... doubtful knowing our teams track record but you never know! I'm so used to disappointment from them that a playoff loss is almost expected.

Vikes that is.

We haven't really had the hardest season though either. We lost the one hard game we had against the steelers. Time will tell and I will still hold out hope!

I actually think the Pats looked like they didn't realize how good NO was. I'm sure it would be a closer game next time but I think NO wins again too

NO is a better team right now..

I hope NE gets going now and who knows anything can happen in the playoff.. I still think both patriots and the steelers have a decent chance if they can get their problems resolved now.
