I'm needing to remove the front suspension and rear end for a trip to the media blaster. Has anyone made a body cart/dolly/etc. to move the car around while the suspension is off? Any pics/suggestions/help is appreciated.
I made a body dolly out of 2 X 2 steel tubing. I made short uprights to where the lower control arms mount and to where the front of the rear springs bolt to the body. I made it so the body would be as level as possible, but I also went slightly overboard and made the chassis mounting points with screw type adjusters so the body could be further leveled it need be. I used some fairly heavy lockable casters on the front and solid wheels on the rear. Sorry i don't have any pics and it is currently at my body guys place which is an hour away. If I get over there soon I will take some pics.
well...thats the back part, no pics of the front. Basically 2x2 box in the shape of a T with a caster welded on the bottom. Then I connect the 2 fronts side to side. Bolts in where the front bumper brackets bolt to
My set up is very similar, except I didn't go as far forward; stopped at the firewall so I have enough room for my front suspension upgrade. I found some 3x3 ~3/8" steel tubing at a steel yards junk pile. Worked out great. Oh... make sure you get good casters that can support the weight of the car. <--- learned lesson on that one
My rotisserie is a WhirlyJig, they start out at $895 and are, I consider, the Cadillac of rotisseries, mine is the Model Standard which is $1250, but I picked it up locally from a guy who had used it on one restoration of a '60 Starliner for $500:
