Body update changes - opinions?

Shortly, I will be beginning the long process of body work on my '69 coupe.

I will be adding functional side scopps, and a front chin spoiler similar to the one on the Fastforward Fastback. I will also be smoothing out the body quite a bit by debadging it (don't worry, the Mustang name will be there, just painted rather than sticking out from the body), removing the drip rails, door and trunk locks, antenna...you get the idea.

The idea, of course, is to smooth out the body and make it flow as much as possible. The color scheme is a two-tone white and silver, cut at the top shoulder line.

The options I am looking at are: 351 hood scoop that I'd make functional and the Shelby Style trunk lid (the one with the built in spoiler and end caps).

Any thoughts on how the trunk lid and scoop would look? Too much goin on?

the trunk lid and end caps would look like total crap especially with the hood scoop, besides that what's i'm doing to my car and it was my idea first you can't steal without express written permission from and i ain't gonna give it actually i've always thought they would look super sharp that way. check out www.trinitysmustangs.com in the galery section there is a black 69 coupe with a white vinyl top and the shelby decklid. BTW you can't use the shelby side scoops either that was my idea too

You don't think the height of the trunk lid spoiler is too much? From this pic it looks a little extreme...

Maybe it's the angle, but to my eye that spoiler looks 2X or more taller than the standard 69 Shelby spoiler.

To me, there's something about the Shelby front and rear that make the car look Torino-sized. I understand that this was purposely done, to foreshadow the coming 71-73 styling. I have often thought about a spoiler or something on the rear deck of my car, but I guess I just don't like the enlarging effect that I see on the Shelbys.

eric, that's the exact pic, thanks. i really love that look on the coupe, i don't think the shelby frontend would look good on a 69/70 coupe though, that would make it look kind of top heavy so to speak. i agree that pic of the decklid from mustang depot is huge. i had emailed mdjay to see if could get me a better pic of the coupe decklid, but i guess he forgot about me, no biggie i'm sure he is extremely especially since al this tcp stuff went down, i also didn't pursue it any further either, i'll email him again one of these days. he did tell me they have a new or another supplier for glass parts and he said this other brand (forgot the name) isn't as drastic as what is in that pic. so you might PM him and see if he can get ya some pics

I'm not familiar with the rear wheel wells of "newer stangs" I'm really only familiar with the 64/65/66 BUT the best body mods I ever made were to all the fenders.

Rear fenders: beat out the lip and with original metal only flared the fenders out about 1.75-2" then took an aluminum wire about the size of a small pencil Dia. and rolled the lip under (coined and rolled)

Front fenders: just did the coin and roll:

Results: 275/50 R25s fit great and allowed me to lower the car ~ 1.5 inches. The fenders are much stronger, no vibration, and no sharp edges!

I think it will look just fine. If you think the back duck tail looks to odd, then you can tame it down with a spoiler also, like the sportsroofs have. When I prepare to repaint my car I am adding the decklid ducktail and the side scoops (leaving them non-functional) and also adding the Shelby roll bar. Not sure if I am leaving the rear spoiler on or not yet, the front spoiler is definitly staying, but may get painted body color instead of black this time. MM (May or June I think) had a picture of a coupe exactly as you depict in blue and white in the YO club winner section BTW if you want to really get an idea.
