i have a friend who has a 5 speed 06 GT...they are nice cars and he is intent on keeping his stock. it is pretty quick, but my 88GT blow it away.....stock for stock...the 06 would most likely win...but i guess thats not what we are talking about huh? Having driven an 06 5 spd GT i think it would be a good race between one and a mild mod fox

Well even the notch owner doesnt think he is gonna win lol. None of us have seen this 06 run so it should be interesting. Im pretty sure both on tires from a dead stop the notch can stil win because he runs 8.40's and this 06 car hasnt been near that yet but will the power to weight carry over from a 40 roll, or hell even a 20 roll?

www.ls1tech.com check the external engine section and see where intake manifolds lie. Heads and cam are where the power is, everything else just supports it or frees up potential bottlenecks. Intake manifold is a bolton but it's the BIG bolton for a 5.0 (LS1 & 96-98 Cobras also).

Lol @ ls1tech, not "stangtech"...

Heads and cam frees up potential bottlenecks...just like an intake does...so I guess we should count heads as a bolt-on, since you just bolt them on...

I'm going to use this the next time some one ask what I have done to my slow ride,..."ahh, just some bolt-ons"...and see what they say

They dyno 260-270rwhp...Kcopolla...you have heads/cam/intake (those are bolt-ons )...you will for sure win...

Don't get sucked into how smooth the 2v's or 3v's are...

Mods list, 93 Notch, Cobra Intake & TB, Mac Unequal Shortys, Pro Chamber, Pro Dumps, Mac UD Pulleys, !Smog, 3.08's. Stock heads, cam, intake, rockers, maf, clutch fan, front sway bar is in place!

A bolt-on car if I ever heard of one...

Swapping manifolds is comparable to swapping heads? LMAO

That's ****ing classic.

Glad I could please you...

Now, an intake manifold is getting into the engine with a major component...

Shortblock, cam, heads, intake.

That is why they say heads, cam, intake setup. Not heads, cam, bolt-ons...

Because the intake manifold is not a bolt-on, it gets into the engine with a major component. Sorry

5spd GT thankfully is not the defining authority on gearhead jargon. Seems it's formed by consesus...and the consensus doesn't agree with you.

Either way, you'll argue any stupid little point you can if it involves a 5.0 and a 4.6. The entire schtick is old and played out.

I never considered a manifold to be a bolt on as well. I mean if you really want to think about it...everything in the car bolts down...so where do you draw the line?

I always considered boltons to be minor mods you can do in your driveway such as TB, pullies, CAI, headers, electric fan, etc....basically externals of the engine

Once you start pulling the intake manifold off and seeing the inside of the engine you have done a major modification.

But i don't want to split hairs on this. My 5.0 has a Cobra Intake on it and i tell people it's a bolt-on 5.0. I did bolt it on after all!!

So who won? I hope the 5.0 did

If we all went by the general consensus, 4:56's would be in our daily drivers

By the way, if it gets old, it takes two to argue...just so you know...

Who said that is consensus...you and a few others on this thread

Like I said, it isn't h/c/bolt-on setup...it is h/c/i intake setup. It is part of the engine, as mentioned...

Let me guess, a supercharger is a bolt-on too?

Mike - It appears that "some" are claiming bolt-on's as those mods that don't add much power...which is not very well thought out in my opinion

With the same basic mods as that notch and 3.73s I went 13.0 @ 103. The notch should be a decent race with the 06 (we have a stock 06s that put down 265 rwhp here too).

LS1tech or Stangnet, it doesnt matter, an intake manifold is a bolton. Heads dont support power on an n/a car, heads and cam DETERMINE power. Everything else just supports it, such as an intake manifold. Intake manifold is a big bolton for a 5.0, oh well, still a bolton and it has it.

You are getting into the engine...an intake manifold (upper/lower) is not a bolt-on.

So let's slap on AFR 165's and a custom cam...with a stock manifold (unported)...will see what "determines" power then. Get the point.

You are just trying to set up another 5.0L win under "bias" conditions...

"It just has bolt-ons"...

Would a bolt on be cams in the OHC cars? Afterall they are easier to install than headers...

Personally I consider a stock long block to be the line for bolt ons. But I too have called my car when it had a Cobra intake a bolt on car. Usually did say bolt ons, plus and intake, but depends who I was talking to.

If a 4.6 rolled up with a Bullitt intake it would STILL BE A BOLTON. It's an INTAKE MANIFOLD FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Heads arent a bolton, they never will be, lemme break it down real simple for you, headers, intakes, cai's, exhuast, timing adjusters, pulleys, tb's, all that bs are BOLTONS, mild performance BS. Blowers, nitrous, turbos, are POWER ADDERS. Explain how an intake manifold is getting INTO the engine?

Your accusations about trying to set up another win for 5.0's under bias conditions? WTF! My life doesnt revolve around what some AFR headed 93 LX guy thinks on Stangnet LMAO!

According to you, only stock ***** should race and NOBODY should ever mod their car? LMFAO AT THAT! Thats why this board catchs so much hell compared to the other boards, if it's not the "I broke up with my girlfriend" posts, it's this lame BS. You dont seem to be into racing, or like racing at all, thats my serious opinion on your attitude. You cut down ANYTHING that has to do with a 4.6 and a 5.0 and alot of people on this board are tired of hearing it, you are like a broken record with your false accusations and conspiracy theroys. Whatever you need to do to downplay the 5.0 because you have one and miss your 4.6, just man up, sell your car and GET A 4.6 so we dont have to hear your tired mantra.

Oh and for the record, the 06 GT was a NO SHOW tonight. He always comes out, wont run, then goes to a local board and posts kill stories about some random ricer he ran into. Then says he will race, then doesnt come out at all.

Ha, this is funny that we are actually getting all riled up over if we consider an intake manifold a bolt-on
