I got an 88 mustang gt 5 speed. when the car was bone stock (at least everything visible is bone stock) it ran 15.01 at 92 mph. around 2000 da. if i use one of these hp calculators online and it comes out to 211 whp. Im confused. is the calculator wrong? Did someone put a cam in this car before i got it? What cam would give me a gain like that? i dont want to take the cam out and mesure it because the car runs so good. is there another way to find out the specs?

By the way when the car ran that the tires were bald. i had a very hard time getting a decent launch.

The online calcs only get you so close they are not gospel... 92mph is a lot out of a stock 5.0, but swapping a cam with stock heads and intake will not give you that gain.

You would need to pull the valve cover and balancer and use a degree wheel and put a dial mic on the pushrod and basically degree the cam to see what numbers are.

If it runs great, leave it alone till you want to do some upgrades!

what was your 60'? If you spin really bad it will show a higher MPH at the traps as when you dig in hard and get traction. My best MPH is 110 but my lowest ET was run at 108 b/c I had better traction.

Stock I ran 14.5 @ 95mph so you could prob squeeze a couple tenths out of her still.. If I were to guess your rwhp is prob in the 180-190 range..

thanks for the reply. i know the calcutations are not perfect but i did the same calculations for my other car bone stock 90 mustang automatic. it ran 16.0 at 85 mph. i think it cam out to like 170 whp. something like that so it has to be a little accurate. i pulled the timing cover and it has a cloyes chain advanced 4 degrees in it. but your right. its a case of it runs good so i dont want to mess with it. thanks for your help.

if i remember right my 60's were 1.9-2.0. i was trying to bracket race it that day(extremely hard in that car but i won 2 rounds) i was doing everthing i can to keep it from spinning tires. i weigh 230 pounds and the car is full weight too. just seems too fast for a bone stock gt. i heard of lxs doing this but not gts. thanks for the reply
