Borg Warner T-10 Tranny

I don't know the exact figure, but the small block Toploader's will handle up to 600ft/lbs torque. The Borg-Warner T10 is somewhere below that. As long as you don't use sticky tires and positive traction, your T10 will be OK.

I put a built 302 an a T10 in my '65 convert. A year later the trans was popping out of 3rd. They don't handle much. I then put in a T5. Have 155,000 miles on the combo now and no problems.

A T10 should easily take more than a build 302 can dish out. T10 is not quite as stong as a top loader, but close. Iron case T10 is better than an Aluminim case T10. They don't suffer case spliting problems as much. The biggest problem T10's have is because of thier side loading design. They tend to try and push their internals out the side of the tranny in high powered cars.

T10 is stronger than any garden variety T5 for sure. I suspect something was already wrong with your T10 before you had your issues.

Respectfully, no, there were no issues. The problem with the T10 popping out of gear is well known. The T5 (later model -- I got mine out of a wrecked '93 GT with low miles in '93) is rated higher than the T10. The T5 is also a top loader. Regardless of what the specs say, my experience over the years has been that it is a better trans that the T10 by far. The T10, in my experience, and I have had several, is weaker that the T5...also had several of those. This is my experience.......

Hmmm......I was always under then impression the T10 was a stout tranny. I've several GM friends that swear it's a tough tranny. No matter. I'd never use one anyway. If I was going to use a four speed, it'd be a Top Loader Ford. :D
