Borla Exhaust

I have a 97 mustang GT and the seams on the factory mufflers are starting to come apart slowly but surely. I was looking at the borla catback for my car along with a matching off-road pipe. I believe the boral is a straight through muffler design.

I've read that an o/r x-pipe works/sounds best with a straight through muffler while an o/r h pipe sounds best with a chambered muffler. I've also read that some o/r x pipes sound nice with the flowmaster 2-3 chambered mufflers? I like the mellow tone of the borla and the way it sounds at WOT. I've though about getting a matching bassani o/r x pipe. Anyone know if there'd be any drone or have any suggestions to go with the borla? Everyone has flowmaster in this town and I want something else to be a little different and don't want the drone that I hear people talk about. I want something that's mellow for driving but sounds kind of throaty at WOT.

I was also wondering if anyone knows if a 17x10.5 will fit on the rear with the borla catback? I thought about originally going bassani but I've heard you can fit anything wider then stock without having to knick the exhaust to fit it. I've asked a few questions in here hoping someone can get a good reply or info for the help.

I got a borla catback (mainly cause I got a steal of a deal) with a mac prochamber. It has a very different sound. The prochamber gives it a little more Rumble IMO but it does pick up a drone. Of course the borla is loud anyways. I'm pretty sure the straight through you are talking about is the Stinger which with an offroad h is obnixously loud IMO.
Tire Fitment not sure I know the guy I got my borla catback from runs 18x10's with the one I have and with the new stinger he got. However it looks like it would hit if I tried on mine. If you go over to gotstang.com 1tufgt is running 18x10's in the rear with borla. Hope this helps.

It says a straight though multi core? Would that be a chambered exhaust that's more straight through then anything or??? I'm still learning what I can and getting there slowly but surely.

i have the borla cat back on my 96 with a bassani X with cats. It sounds great. Not too loud when local cruising and loud enough when you get on it. I've been complimented by many including old guys with muscle cars. I have 90,000 miles and 9 yrs of use on the catback and its still good as new. Wow they cost over 700 now...I paid @400.

I've got the OR prochamber, had that on with stock cat(less) back. Then I picked up the Borla catback from a local guy. Not sure they used to list them as borla and then borla "stinger". The Stinger's are the straight through loud as heck hurt your ears they are also more $$.

I got the Borla Pro XS mufflers welded in to my stock pipes. Sounds good with my catted MRT H. Stingers might be obnoxious, but the Borla Pro XS is not. My wife and 3-year old ride with me to work a couple times a week and they do not complain. Cruising at 65 with stock gears, it is almost as quiet as stock exhaust inside the cabin. But when going through the gears, quiet it is not. I got the mufflers ($70 each) and had them welded for $112, about $250 total. As long as your pipes are in good shape, you might want to save some coin. I bought them through Wickednicky.com and would do it again.

Do you think the that borla cat-back, that's not the stinger right? would sound fine with the bassani o/r X pipe? Like no major drone?

The Mufflers them selfs don't seem to suffer Drone. I get it from the prochamber. Then again I only have like 3 bills in my whole system so I cann't complain too much. hehehehe

Everyone I hang out with says the Borla sounds good from the outside when really getting on it, but I dont particularly care for it.

your selling your borla so you can get flowmaster? talk about taking a step back! But if you like DroneMasters its your car.

I've got 10.5x17 with 315 35's and a borla stinger catback. supposedly it clears. If I look on the exhaust, there is a slight rub mark thought. My car has c springs though....

Your also asking about a smooth sounding exhaust thats loud as well. If you put an Off road X or H pipe on your car.... its not going to be smooth. Stick with a mid-pipe with cats, the cats will smooth out the exhaust.

I ran, the borla catback w/bassani O/R X for a few years. Sounded awesome, If I remember, It had a little bit of drone right at 2K rpms but it didn't sound bad too me. Always got compliments. Then I had to weld cats on the O/R bassani pipe to pass emmisions. It quieted it down quite a bit, but still had a nice tone. Since then I added an O/R SLP X with interchangable Cat's or Straight Pipes. WOT is just ridiculously loud now but me likey!!

BTW, if you don't want something real raspy and very loud, take Jongo's advice and get a catted X.

I have the Steeda Cat-back (Borla) with SLP O/R X-pipe and the SLP LT's. I hear that it sounds good all the time, from domestics and import drivers. I'll tell you what though, I also hear that it's not very loud until WOT. Which is fine by me. It's loud enough just driving around. I like the sound because it doesn't sound like I just cut off the pipes like a lot of domestic people do.

Another vote for Bassani X and Borla Catback. Mine is catted. Excellent quality.
