Posting for a friend. He has a 2005 GT Auto Stang. There is a tick that comes and goes but is mostly there when warm or after long drives. The dealer said they replaced the short block a few weeks ago but that same tick is back in only hafter 3 or 4 days. It seems to go away after a oil change but soon returns in less then a week. He has taken it back many tims for this issue and is approaching the lemon law.

My qustion is as follows. If the Ford dealer said they changed the bottom end is there a way to verify this as being the truth? The feeling is they didnt do anything other then change the oil and gave him the car back. Ford had the car for 5 weeks during this engine swap.

What are the casting numbers and where are they located?

could be the valves......

and no, no way to verifiy it.. unless you call up ford of america and have them check for warrenty claims.. (a dealer can't service warrenty work without asking for 'permission' essentially from ford HQ)
If they do that.. great, if not. take it to another dealer and get them working on it.. I'm sure the warrenty will almost be expired by now if its an 05' (mine goes in july!)

i almost have a similar problem, but its just chop in the exhaust pipe from a bad-fitting X-pipe. chimes in as a low thump.. like a JAG brake, but not nearly as loud, hard to recognize with an untrained ear aswell.

i'm too lazy to go under, take it all apart and cut some of the pipe down to get it to fit better.
