Wanted to share the news

Big thanks to Uncle Meat

I really do appreciate all your help man. Info you gave me, plus the info I learned during my own research, really helped me out alot during my exhaustive Cobra search. I was searching nationwide and ended up finding the one for me at Beverly Hills Ford. just a couple of hours drive for me

Congrats on the Cobra. Do you by chance live in Chula Vista? The other day I was behind a nice Silver Cobra. Great pics by the way. IMO, as far as mods, I would only have a reputable tuner tune my car. I use Danny Swanson in Torrance. Long drive but worth the effort.

I, I , I

So your saying you drove my new baby ,

J/K. Yeah I got them to go much lower than 34K. I made a deal with the GSM, and cut the used car guy outta the loop. You shoulda seen him, lol

He was going to sit on that car and wait for the Beverly Hills prestige to sell that thing for 35K even.

I paid 29.5K. So a pretty good deal. Its practically like if you cross California state line, raise the price on a Cobra 2K. and talking about private party too.

No, I'm more of a North County guy. Hardly ever go to southtown.

And yeah, to answer yours and the other guy's question. I have my plans (insert evil laugh here) gonna start with the basics like the adjustable clutch quandrant and F/A kit from MM and slap on an MGW. Gotta improve that driveability first.

I am going to try and be good and just do the CAI, and cat-back, and predator. going to try and hold off the pulley swap for a little bit. I know its easier said that done, lol

Thanks for the compliments fellas

Congrats on the new ride. I am sure you will love it. Give you about a month till you start looking for a pulley though. You won't be able to handle the urge much more than that.

Tempting for sure Spree. Seems there is a couple of good tuners in LA area.

I remember when you got that thing. I used to post in 4.6 talk a good bit.

You have some sweet #'s on that thing. Looks like you held off what, almost a year before the pulley swap? LOL.

That cars runs like a champ huh? I am starting to think I am going to be real happy that I went with the 04.

I wanted a Sonic Blue 03 something awful. But two deals fell through on me...

Comet - I know it man. gotta hope the gains from CAI and Cat-back can hold off the mod madness for a little bit.

Boost =

Yeah...well I bought the car in August. It already has 11k miles on it. Definitely do the pulley swap man...either that, or whipple it. You won't regret it.

PM me if you're gonna do a pulley swap. I've got Billetflow's pulley puller tool at home, so I can help you out on that. It'll save you a good amount of cash (that tool alone costs like $150).

Thanks Chuckstang95 - The camera is a Sony 5.0 Megapixel, so sounds like you got the right kind of camera to take some pics like that

You got the right idea. Its still a toss up with JLT vs. K&N. probably going to go ahead and stick with the K&N that comes with the smog sticker. Gotta pick your smog battles here in Cali. and agreed about the 03/04 Cobras

Road racing does sound like a lot of fun. too bad there just isnt much in the way of good tracks here in San Diego. we lost our only 1/4 strip in Carlsbad a few months ago, no doubt due to more ****ing track homes

I do want to get some suspension work done soon

my advice is to stay away from the K&N. It leans out your car by rotating the MAF to 12 o'clock. It's fine on the factory tune since it's already pig rich...but once you get pullied, your tuner will need to add more fuel to compensate for the K&N leaning out your car. That's why I swapped to the JLT when I pullied my car.

Please provide us with some more info to back up this claim against the K&N because you are the first to bring this up! From everything I've read, heard of, and witnessed with my own eyes I can say I've never seen any K&N FIPK system installed on a 03/04 Cobra cause the overall A/F to change more than +/- 0.1. As for the MAF electronics getting rotated from the stock 10 O'clock position to the 12 O'clock position when installing the FIPK; this has very little, if any effect on the A/F ratio when the straight through filter is bolted directly to the MAF itself. There can be problems however when a 90 degree bend is introduced in front of the MAF electronics. This bend can disrupt the laminar airflow and cause the electronics to misread the amount of air passing through the MAF. Rotating the MAF electronics when using a CAI with a 90-degree bend can seriously affect A/F ratios, but this is NOT the case with the K&N.

If your only reason for swapping from the K&N to the JLT was because of an A/F issue I'd like to see some dyno sheets showing how just the addition or subtraction of the FIPK affected your ratios. There must have been something else going on. I can give you a list of 100+ Cobra owners running the FIPK and they'll all tell you it didn't affect their A/F ratio at all.

Well, first off, I'd like to mention that I'm not much of a mechanic. The statement that I made was based on my own experience and from talking to people and reading threads on SVTP. This has actually been brought up before over there, an I'm not the first person to have experienced it.

Here's a dyno run I made after swapping from the K&N to the JLT. Same tune, same mods, same weather conditions, same dyno, same tailpipe sniffer. Blue is the K&N, red is the JLT. I had the operator cut the dyno run way short, since as you can see, the A/F is way off...but you can still see the JLT running richer:

Now, as I've already said, I'm not much of a mechanic...so I'll include a quote from Hermann @ HBH. He's over on SVTP and has tuned many cobras in his past. This was taken from this thread: http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141059&page=3&pp=25

because it DOES LEAN the a/f mixture...and this will make more power on a stock car. Why do you guys think ford makes the mass air sensor with a 4 bolt flange on it that only bolts on ONE WAY to the factory air box?? So the a/f will be consistant, something that is very important when you are trying to get 100,000 plus mileage from the supercharged cobra if you are ford! When we send a custom tune out to a mail order customer we insist for the safety of their own engine that the meter be in the factory 10:00 position so the maf transfer functions will be correct...this is a big deal on untuned cars guys...the a/f changes greatly on just a 5 percent rotoation of the meter! None of this meter position matters if the car is getting custom tuned live and you are data logging and checking a/f while tuning, but if your not keep this in mind because your engine's life might be at risk...hermann NOTE!! Here are some pictures showing the the meter positions...the first one shows how the k-n,steeda ect. mount the meter"straight up", the other two show the factory type of monting angle, which is prefered for factory type maf transfer functions...hope this explains more !!

Jay, the owner of JLT, has also run dyno tests that show the K&N running leaner due to the MAF rotation.

Very, very interesting...

What other mods besides the K&N or the JLT were on this car? Something just doesn't add up here...
