just got it yesterday. im wondering where you guys mounted it? any cool ideas? right now i have it about 3 inchces off the bottom of the winshield and a bit left of center. also, what do you guys do for turning it off when you leave your car? if i know im going to be say.. less than 3-4 hours till im back in my car, could i just leave it on? how long could our battery power it w/o dying? whoops.. sp on the title

My radar detector sits just below the rear-view mirror. I have it hard wired (wires run along the hood liner, down the A-pillar, into the fusebox) in the fuse box on the same circuit as the radio. All I did was strip off about 1/2inch of insulation from the power wire, folded it over the radio fuse, and pushed it in. Then connect the ground to the existing ground screw by the fuse box, and bam, it works. This way it turns on and off with the car and there are no wires showing.

I always turn mine off and remove it from sight when parked in public.
It would be cool to mount it high, like near the rear view mirrow. That way it
would'nt bake in the sun, which can totally fry the unit.

i may be getting one also. same model was requested.

anyway, doesnt it have a holster or somthing that it can be removed from to hide it fro mthe sun when not in the car? i really dont feel like going through the trouble of hard wireing it. the wires showing dont bother me at all but i would like to keep it from frying without taking the cups of the winshield.

Hardwired mine as well to the radio fuse. Sexeh time.

I let mine bake in the sun. It was only $120 so whatever. lol. Oh, and don't let the wires just sit on your dash. I did that and one really hot day it started to melt the wires into my dash. Siiiiiiick stuff. That's when I decided it was time to hard wire.

if you hardwire it...how can you rip it off and throw it under the seat when you get pulled over???

good stuff so far guys.. im glad you mentioned baking in the sun, and good thing its winter, cause i wouldnt of known better. i dont really want to mount mine high, cause than its more visible, but i do need to move it up a bit to clear the wipers i guess. does that really make a difference tho? one thing im thinking is mounting a 12v power adapter somewhere in the car, that has a switch on it. this way, since i only have one outlet now, i can have 3 outelts, and a easy way to turn the radar off each time i get out the car. i just cant think of where to mount the adapter tho, and make it look nice with all the wires running around.

also, it matches the mineral gray, so you cant even notice it from a few feet back.

Why would you do that? Its only illegal to have one in VA and D.C. Cops can't take your Radar or ticket you for having one. I never remove mine if i'm pulled over.

Ya but if they see that you have one 99.999999% of the time theyll give you a ticket.

Having a radar detector does not piss off cops or increase your chances of getting a ticket. If you get busted just remove your seatbelt and ask for a warning and a seatbelt ticket.

Ya maybe where your from but here if they see it your getting a ticket. If you take off your seatblet youll be getting a seatbelt and a speeding ticket.

speeding tickets = points and raised insurance...
seatbelt ticket is just a fine...
i thought it was simple and didn't need to be broken down. Most cops don't care what kinda ticket they write as long as they write one.

I would assume that the radar detector would have a timer that shut it off after a certain amount of time with the car off

I don't have one, though the vehicles I have rode in with one equipped would turn on once the ignition was turned on

its like any other tool, if you learn to use it then yeah it works. I pay attention to where mine goes off regularly and have learned the false alarm areas and usually while on a highway in a rural area is the only place i would need it anyway and you won't encounter alot of false alarms so i take every alert seriously. The best thing about a quality radar is its range. Since my area is so congested there is always someone on the highway with you at all times so cops will zap people a mile or so ahead of me and i'll pick it up and slow down.
