that's what i thought until i started reading more about the 85's. in 85 the manual had carb, but auto had cfi (central fuel inj). which was basically a PILE cause it caused the aod to only have:

CFI - V8 GT (automatic)
180 HP @ 4200 RPM
260 ft/lb @ 2600 RPM

4V - V8 GT (5-speed)
210 HP @ 4400 RPM
270 ft/lb @ 3200 RPM

Ford was afraid the aod could not stand up to the additonal power. I have seen stock 85's with AOD's run high 14's in good tune. So your setup is not as weak as you might think. But I agree, you should probably convert to carb.
