I just got a set of Boyd Coddington Smoothie IIs for the stang. I live in Long Island NY and am very torn as to whether or not I should put the wheels on or wait for the spring. This car is my daily driver, and they will see snow next winter. Help

On a daily driver, sooner or later, they'll see snow, right? And right now, you're more apt to keep them spotless, right? I say go for it - the BC Smoothies are awesome. What size, where did you get em, and how long did you have to wait for them?
Congrats and welcome to StangNet!!!

I got them at , discount tire direct,17 inches, they cost $250 each, and I waited 6 weeks. Long time reader, low poster.

DO NOT put them on now, wait & save the finish on them. i made the mistake of not taking my polished rims off last year for the winter

Yeah. I agree .. don't put them on. I ruined my AR Torque thrusts. All the polishing can't get them back to new. I live in NY also.

I would hold off. $250 per wheel is a lot of money and they'll pit eventually if they are exposed to the salt. I'm from LI also, I've seen first hand what the salt does to chrome wheels.

My best advice would be to not ever use them in snow. Switch to your stockers before the first snow-fall.

My buddies dad has a set of boys on his durango and he didnt change them for a few weeks and they look like hell when you get up close. They are all pitted and need cleaned up pretty badly.

Thanks for all the great info guys. You told me what I was afraid of and trying to somehow rationalize in my own head. I will wait. I would be extremely f@#$ing pissed if the salt and crap of NY ruined these things. Thanks

don't forget to pick something to correct your speedo with that bigger wheel, unless you got something already.

If you can't wait, try getting a ceramic coating put on them. I just got my polished valve covers done and they look absolutely great.

Good choice! I love those wheels. I would buy a set of 15" V-6 wheels with good snow tires for the winter, you'll be better off that way and keep your Smoothies nice too.

Me too. Boyd Coddinton is an egotistical jerk. If he ever talked to me the way he talks to those guys at his shop he'd be picking his teeth up off the floor. He will never profit from my hard earned dollar. Plus I think he's gay, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Nice wheels. Save them for the Spring/Summer. I bought Billet Specialties for my car and drove them during an Ohio winter.. They look like crap now.. Ive seen some people do a clear powder coat on polished wheels and they hold up much better..

I couldnt buy Boyd's product. I dont know what "his" hot rod skills actually are..But putting your name on someone else's design makes me sick! Some of his color combos are butt ugly.. I dont think blue and yellow go together as much as he tries to make it go together! His employees spend too much time arguing..Heck if overhaulin can redo a Mustang-top notch- in a week and Boyd's guys complain because they only got "6 weeks"....WTF?

I think all the shows like his and OCC, etc are all edited to look that way. Of course that stuff happends but its probably not as bad as it seems.

Its just edited to sell ads to consumers.

I think he can be an ******* to some of his employees also. And I agree about some of his hotrod color combos suck. But his wheels are sweet. I don't care who you are. I just wish he didn't sign everything.

My buddy has a 2004 Boyd Coddington Roush with the Smoothies mounted. If I were you I would definitely wait to put them on. They are a pain in the ass to keep clean. If it rains the shine fades, he spends more time polishing the damn wheels than he does driving it.

The difference between OCC and Boyd is that Paulie and Mike like to push seniors buttons. They have fun doing it. Everyone in Boyd's shop is just being a jerk.

I like those rims. I thought about getting a set for my 70.
