Brake booster kills engine

I had the same problem with hard braking and even hard turning. The engine would sputter and start to die and I would have to stab the throttle quickly several times to get it going again.

IMO, fuel slosh in the carb, you need to get those plastic fuel baffles that many carb rebuilders remove when redoing the carb. Summit and Jegs sells them for about $3.

I have front disc's and rear drums with a power booster. The problem I have is when I come to a hard stop my engine dies. If anyone has fixed this problem please let me know how you did it. THANKS

Could be a bad power brake booster too. Applying the brakes could cause a big vacuum leak, leading to your stalling problem. Does the idle quality change when you step on the brakes (while you're sitting still)? If not - go with the other guys - fuel slosh. Too easy not to try this, though...

Or......plug the vac hose going into the booster and jam on the brakes to see what effect it has on it. If it still dies you will know its not the brake booster. Make sure you are away from traffic because your stoping distance will be longer and pedal effort will be harder. I know this because I blew the hose off my brake booster during a 90 mph run on an 1/8 mile track with a short shut down area. It took both feet standing on the pedal and pulling on the steering wheel to slow down. Yikes!

Were you yelling "Whoa baby" while you pulled on the steering wheel? That helps them stop faster.:rlaugh: Seriously, I've had to do that for an emergency stop with manual brakes; the only way to get more leverage on the pedal was to pull on the wheel. I actually came out of my seat standing on the pedal.
