Brake Booster

This is about the only thing I haven't done to a car. I want to remove and repaint my power brake booster. Is it a big job or am I destined to have a clean motor and engine compartment with a grungy rusted booster?

Not too bad. Remove the lines going to the master cylinder, unbolt the master cylinder from the booster, disconnect the booster from the brake pedal, and spray it til she's pretty. Obviously, you'll need the bleed all of the brakes when you reinstall it too.

Are you saying not to remove it from the fire wall?

No, sorry. I figured that part was understood. It would be much easier to paint off vs. on. Sorry about that. BTW, how's Michigan City doing? Stayin' outta trouble up there?

Removing the BB is a real pain in my opinion because you have to deal with it in a confined area under the dash.
If you decide to remove the BB I found the easiest way is to first remove the drivers side seat so that you have room to work in, you'll then need a 1/4 drive ratchet with about a 14" extension and a 14mm deep socket to get to the nuts that hold the BB to the firewall, and the you need to remove the rod from the pedal assembly before you can take it out.

I kind of figured thats what you meant. After talking to a few people it almost dosen't sound worth it. I may look into pulling the master cylinder and covering everything with drop cloth and newspaper and painting it on the firewall. I truly hate working on anything under the dash. As far as M.C is concerned its starting to wake up with the warmer weather. We've already had our first murder of the year and we're not out of April. Not a big fan of the place.

Just checked under the dash and its tight, but I think I can get a 3/8" drive up in there. I don't have A/C so I might not have as crowded of an area to work as most. I may be speaking to soon, but it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult.

Just went out to the car with my metric sockets ..... its 9/16. Gotta laugh at Ford sometimes.
