Brake pad recommendations

My stock brake pads brake pretty bad. I have so much pad left but they don't brake very well, I almost rear-ended someone who stopped in the middle of the road suddenly.

Besides Hawk Performance pads, what do you recommend? I know Hawk's are good but I was wondering what are some other alternatives. A brake shop told me that Bendix ceramic brakes work nicely, what do you guys think?

Unless you do a lot of road racing, I don't think ceramics are going to do you much good, but it's your $$$$... Their heat tolerance is quite high and they do last a bit longer, but you might also check out FRPP to see what they have to offer.

Perhaps a Cobra upgrade?

Doesn't Ford put Motorcraft brakes already stock? Or are there Motorcraft Performance brake pads?

I had ceramics on my 1995 Cobra and in autocross, they really held up. Did I like how much they cost => no. They did not seem to grab any better or worse, imo, it was just how much they did not seem to fade with heat, like the stock pads I did have when I had started.

Thanks it does help. I'm looking for brake pads that will give me better stopping power. What materials are good in regards to for example, ceramics, semi-metallic, etc.?

i used to drive a toyota before this, and their organic pads can stop way better than my stock mustang pads. i'm just looking for more stopping power, and perhaps there's nothing wrong with stock OEM equipment, it's just that I had better before, and I also almost rear-ended someone who stopped in the middle of the road, so I'd like more stopping power just incase something like that happens again.

BOTTOM Line.......... You might not need the stopping power as some ppl have mentioned of ceramics. But Since you have nice rims and if u don't want to be cleaning them every other day from crappy semi matalic pads or organic pads get a set of ceramic ones.

1. Organic pads suck they are worst ones.
2. Semi-Matallic stop prolly just as well as Ceramic under normal wear and tear but don't last as long and emit quite a lot of brake dust.
3. Ceramic pads are what u should get.

Bottom Line:

More braking power requires more braking/contact surface.

No dust = ceramic = more $ and you keep your oem calipers. (EDIT: I should not say no dust, rather limited dust, as your pads and rotors will find dirt and dust in the atmosphere and collect it while rotating and grind it up into fine dust.)

Like said above, you can look for a Cobra upgrade and set it up with ceramics.

If you're not stopping very well with good pad life I suggest bleeding the brakes and master cylinder. and then check about those ceramic pads.

Looks like you need the Cobra R brake upgrade. Or Saleen brakes to match the rest of the Saleen parts. Your pretty much stock performance wise. Go with the Motorcraft pads if you don't intend on racing. If you do you should upgrade your brakes instead of buying performance pads for you stock brakes.

I wouldn't go with any high performance brake pads if your just using your car for regular driving. The main difference in brake pads is the heat range that they are most effective in. A high performance brake pad will never get hot enough reach it's optimal operating range on the street. Those are more for racing where you are on the brake almost always without diving for long periods of time for them to cool. on the other hand, depending on your driving style, you dont want pads that operate too cool cause when the get beyond the optimal heat range you get brake fade.

The ceramic pads warped my rotors pretty fast. I'm sticking with motorcraft.

I just got Carbon Metallics from Performance Friction http://www.performancefriction.com/pages/about_pfc.htm

what do you guys think? They said it lasts longer than any other pad with great stopping power. I just put them on and waiting for them to "break-in" as the brake place said to me.
