Brake pads

I DESPERATELY need new brake pads. I would like to upgrade the whole brake setup (fronts only), but it's too expensive. But I HAVE to replace my pads, they are paper thin. What does everybody recommend? I saw EBC and Raybesto's both had some on 50resto ranging from $40 to $100. Obviously that's a big difference, so I need some advice. Or maybe my local parts stores will have good pads for decent money?

I gave the EBC pads a try because Tirerack had them on sale for $25.00/axle. I'm running the EBC Red Stuff pads with OEM Brembo rotors in the front. They are pretty decent, but need to be warm to work really well though. I drive over 300 miles/week and the dust isn't too bad. I used to run the Autozone 'lifetime' warranty pads, they aren't very good, neither are their cheap rotors!

I've heard alot of people here recommend the Hawk pads, if you are looking for better stopping power. Maybe someone will chime in regarding those.

Hawk's are a little too expensive. I'm not gonna be driving the stang a whole lot anymore, so I just need some decent ones, and I need them quick. I talked to a friend with a 2000 GT, he bought some from Advanced Auto Parts, and said he's had them on for about 20k miles, and they still have a lot of wear left. He said they stop pretty good too. So I'll probably just swing by in the morning and pick some up on the way to work.

I've been running the Hawk HPS pads up front for years. They are not easy on rotors though. For the money a set of Wagner Thermo Quiets are really the way to go. As the name states they will never squeal and the produce 40% less brake dust then every pad in its class. Its basically two steps up from stock. Ceramic pads are the top of the line (not cheap). Since I don't AutoX anymore the Hawk stuff will be replaced with TQ's. I'm in the business so I'm very familiar with this topic. We sell millions and millions of calipers and pads per year. Have you seen the movie "Tommy Boy"? Well that's what I do.

Joe, LOVE that movie!!

Where can I get those Wagner's, and how much do they cost?

While I'm at it, I was looking at the Cobra brake system on 50resto, the one for 96-98 is $400, while the one for 94/95 is $700!! The one for ours says it comes with a master cylinder. Would the 96-98 kit work for ours? Or is it different? My friend said he thought it would work. If I could get that setup for $400 I'd do that. I'm gonna look on eBay.

No the 96+ cars have the hydroboost brake cylinder. We have the regular hydraulic system.

TQ's can be purchased in just about every auto parts store accross the World. They should be under $50. They do have a warranty so be sure to fill the card out and keep the receipt in the glove box or something. This way if you do AutoX someday-FREEBIE!!!!

Joe, thanks bro! I was skeptical if that kit would work, too bad. Oh well, I'll be sure to ask about the TQ's tomorrow when I go to look. Ebay doesn't look to have many brake systems, just rotors, calipers, pads and stuff by themselves.
