Brake problem

The other day I noticed a clunk noise everytime I take off after stopping. One clunk, then nothing. It sounds like it is coming from under the car. So yesterday I'm in the garage, and I see what looks like hot spots on my front driverside rotor (dime size off color circles going all the way around in a perfect circle). I reached in (I have Cobra R's), and the pads still have more than half of the surface remaining, but the more I hear the noise, the more it sounds like it is coming from this corner. I haven't been able to get in there yet, but I did try to move the caliper by hand, and it didn't budge. How could this happen, if this is the case?

One or all of your U-joints are bad, or your DS is loose where it bolts up to the pinion flange. Check it out.

I think I missed something here. It could be suspension related. I would inspect end links, ball joints, etc. When you take off, you unload the front suspension and that could be what makes the noise.

It could be brakes though. Are they grabby at all? I would say have that rotor turned or replaced jsut to see...

I'm getting ready to throw some stock springs on it while I piece together a new suspension set-up, and hopefully a brake upgrade. I'll check out the driveshaft too, but it sounds/looks like the brake pads are moving around on that rotor. I just wanted to get some ideas. With the way my car is slammed, and having 9" wide tires on the front, and not having the ABS operational at the moment, it's kind of hard to "feel" what the problem may be. Thanks guys.
