Alrighty, next weekend's project is getting the brakes dialed in.

First...
I want to toss some speed bleeders in, when I go to remove the old bleeders am I going to fill that line full of air when I take the old ones out?

Second...
I was going to consider some new drums as I'm sure they are the originals, and I can't afford a disk setup yet. I noticed you can purchase these in different widths to accomodate different width shoes. Can I increase the width of my drums or must they match what is on there now? I'm hoping this will fix this racket I have at low speeds (parking lot speed)...like a slow knocking noise, I believe it goes away once the brakes are applied.

1. You wont FILL the line with air but, yes, you are introducing some and you will want to bleed the brakes after you install the new bleeders.

2. You can get wider drums, sure, if they dont rub/conflict with your rims, etc. The shoes need to match them, obviously. One of the old 60s Shelby tricks was to replace the rear drums with w - i - d - e drum setups from a fullsize Galaxie or Econoline van, and this idea is still used today for Shelbys that must race IAW 'vintage" rules.

If your going to replace the drums, might I suggest replacing the wheel cylinders and rubber lines as well while your at it.

Yea, that will add $100 or $150 to the job but it’s more than worth it IMO.
