Brake Slap

Did a front brake slap on the 01 GT Sunday. "Slap" as in I didn't bleed the hose, or change the rotors, I just unbolted the caliper, slapped some new pads in, sanded the rotors, sprayed everything with brake cleaner, and took off. Seems to work fine but I'm wondering if the pads are touching the rotor while driving, when I let off coasting it seems to slow down faster. Probably my imagination, but did I do anything wrong? The Haynes manual at Advance showed how to do this

Car has 45K or so on it. First brake change.

Where are the slide pins? Or is that the bolt I undid

strype in the 4.6L section i thought you only existed in the BR


back to topic yeah you need to grease the slide pins.......but no you wont die on the way home......could be that a caliper is draggin teh brakes

I called a friend who used to be an ASE Certified brake tech, and he said I'm lucky a caliper or 2 hasn't locked up

He said that there is a box with the 4 tubes and a bearing in it in the system, and by simply pressing the pistons back I could a) have sent trash right back up into that box which is BAD, and b) Screwed up the pressure to each brake.


He's gonna help me bleed the system after work- so much for taking the easy way out

+1 Definitely check under the rubber boots on each slide pin and make sure they are well-lubed as they can have a tendency to dry up and stick!

theres no need to bleed the brakes when you change pads. thats more of a seperate maintenance thing. usually when you just do a pad slap, the grooved rotor will groove the pads quickly too. when we do brake jobs at work, we try to sell a rotor resurface too, especially on the front. just sanding the rotors with sandpaper does no good at all.
