Brake Upgrade...Options?

cobra's are twin piston. baer and cobra brakes are almost same. Better braking then cobra are ALCON and BREMBO. For most bang for the buck, Go for cobra or bullitt or mach 1 brakes from ford. other then these you will be jumping to 1k range for better brakes.

Cobra's use twin piston pbr calipers and brembo vented rotors on the front... Unless you do ALOT of open track duty, throw some greenstuff or yellowstuff pads on the cobra brakes and you will love them.. There is a HUUUGE difference between cobra brakes and gt brakes, especially with good pads...

If you want pretty rotors to boot, I just ordered these a while back...

Made from brembo blanks...

They stop fine. i am using it with axxis ceramic pads. They are super cool looking. they make a little noise if you install them the forward slot direction but all slotted rotors do that. If you install it back ward you will hear less "chopping" noise.

But they look good, and they work good. :)

if your looking to spend little cash, the PBR calipers(duel piston, but not the same as cobra calipers) off the 99 and up GT/V6 are a noticable improvement over the 94-98 GT/V6 single piston calipers.you can also reuse you rotors with these.had these with duralast gold cermaic pads and cross drilled rotors for a while before i got the cobra calipers, the stopping was much better.even with those, when i installed the cobra's it was like :jaw:,plus they look much better.for the cash,i think it was my best upgrade yet.i'm sure the brembo's,bear's or any other high-dollar brake system's are much, much better.but for the price,in my opinion, you can't beat the cobra's,bullitt's or mach 1's like hollywoodstang said.

Thanks for the replies...couple of f/u questions:

1. I have PBR's from a 2000 stang on there now...Are you guyz saying the 2-pisting Cobras are better than the PBR's?

2. If I stay with the PBR's, what are the best pads to use with them?

3. DO you have any sites/links to the exact Bullits or Mach 1 brakes that are for the 94?

Thanks
RC

1.yes cobra's are better.they have increased braking power due to the size of the rotor, increased braking surface.
2.i've heard hawk street pads are very good.
3.i'm sorry, i dont know the website's.for what it's worth,i like my cobra calipers, but i think the bullitt's look better than the cobra's.

So the PBR's only use the stock rotor and the Cobra's do not use the stock rotor? (a better rotor only?)

Do you consider braking ability equivalent with Bullit's, Mach's and Cobra's?

Thanks

I need some good brakes too and this is what I found:
Baer with Shelby logo on them
http://dagostinoracing.com/index.ph...th=2678_122_1414_1416_14497&products_id=13983

Stillen (some new stuff...I guess)
http://dagostinoracing.com/index.ph...th=2678_122_1414_1416_20321&products_id=15325

A lot of brake kits (they have some cobra calipers but with Saleen logo on them)
http://www.discbrakesrus.com/make/ford/cobra.htm#saleensilverredlettering

wonder how much lighter they are compare to Cobra ones

I think the discbrakesrus page was the one I was looking for...Still cant find the Bullit calipers that are referred to above as "better looking"

the stock rotor's on the 99 and up V6/GT with the PBR calipers are a little over 10 inches,i forget the exact size.the cobra's,mach 1's,and bullitt's use 13 inch rotor's.there's no differance that i'm aware of between the cobra's,mach 1's and bullitt's,other than the visual design.

What's the difference between those and the Cobra's except the lettering?

That is the only difference everything else is the same. Also www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com has cobra type brake set up that cost more then just getting new real cobra brakes. I have no clue if they perform better but the specs look identical to oem cobra brakes. They do however have a kit called "Front Force 10 3-Piston Aluminum Caliper Disc Brake Kit" Part Number-A112-11 those look fantastic but carry a $1306.00 price tag. Thats if you plan on doing some serious braking or just want to have that type of "bite" on tap.

So If I have PBR's now and want the Cobra's/Bullitts the Rotors will have to be changed also, which will provide better braking?

I know when I got the PBR's I bought them for $100 with the rotors off a 99 or 00 GT that had only 5k miles on them at the time. The braking was "better" but not as good as I expected.

Thanks

The calipers form GT wont work, you need Cobra/Bullitt/Mach1 ones.

you CAN'T use the cobra/mach 1/bullitt calipers with the rotors from a 94-04 V6/GT.the 94-04 V6/GT rotors are too small for cobra/mach 1/bullitt calipers.

all 94-04 V6/GT rotors are 10.8 inches.

all 94-04 cobra/mach 1/bullitt rotors are 13 inches.

the only differance between the stock front brakes on the 94-98 V6/GT and the 99-04 V6/GT PBR's are the caliper's,mounting bracket's,line's,and pad's.they are designed to work with the 10.8 inch rotor.NOT a 13 inch rotor.

when converting to either 94-04 cobra/bullitt/mach 1 front brake's,you NEED the 94-04 cobra/bullitt/mach 1 caliper's,mounting bracket's,line's,pad's,and 13 inch rotor's.these were designed to work with ONLY 13 inch rotors.
