I was wondering what type of oil I should use when braking in a new engine? I have heard to use a non synthetic, but was just wondering what you guys think. I already know the whole braking in process, and just wondering about the oil.

Thanks,
Dave

Is this a roller cam engine? If so, just use a non-synthetic normal motor oil. If you have a flat tappet cam, I recommend delo-400 diesel oil, it's 15W-40.

"Braking" is what you do when you want to stop... "breaking in" is what you mean.

Break it in with whatever oil you plan on running in the car, just change it and the filter after about 100 miles and again after 500 miles. Don't rev the engine too high, but don't be afraid to give it full throttle... a good load on the engine is what helps seat the rings. Good luck and enjoy your new engine.

If the motor is flat tappet i would first break it in on valvoline rv-1 racing oil with the extra mineral in it to help the cam bearing break in easier but only do this for the first 30 miles or so otherwise after that i would use 10 - 40w just for extra protection, just my thoughts

10w-30 or 10w-40 cheapo motor oil is what i would use for the first 500miles because you should change it a few times in this period

i wouldn't run synthetic until you have broken the engine in and taken it to red line a few times with someone behind you to see if there is any blue smoke or not
