Hey Guys My Gf has a 06 4.0 stang and it has 55,000 on it .. the other night she said she was racing someone Idk why lol .. and the rmps shot up and the car died and won't start again. She took it to checker auto part to get the obd 2 read and the guy said 02 sensor but he also cleared the code like a dumbass so I can't do it myself .. any suggestions or similar experiances

Why in the world would it be the O2 sensor? That doesn't make any sense to me, but then I am not a tech either

My Metro did almost this exact same thing once. I wasn't racing , but I was pulling onto the freeway and suddenly the rpms shot up and my check engine light came on after a pop came from under the hood on the passenger side. I immediately pulled over and popped the hood. Everything looked fine, until I pulled the timing belt cover and there it was in two pieces, the timing belt.

Now before you go looking at timing belts, I will say this, your gf's car has a timing chain and they rarely if ever break. Under normal working conditions and usually only after hundreds of thousands of miles... Did she hear anything before it died? Manual or auto?

Hmm I am not really an auto guy sorry The only thing that I can think of that would jump the rpms like that are drivetrain loss somewhere. Which can go from engine to the hubs on the rear wheels. Lots to look at...

I think you should get your money back from that 'tech' because this would be way easier with codes to help deduce the problem...

What does it do when you try and crank it over?

If no codes after he cleared them, try disconnecting the battery for a little while. See if that helps.

Does the car try to turn over? Starter engaging?
