Broke my TKO 600 after 120 miles

I posted earlier about my speedometer not working. I did some checking around and discovered that the speedo drive gear inside my brand-new Tremec is completely loose, and just spins on the output shaft. I didn't even get a chance to finish breaking it in. I tried calling D&D, but there on vacation until Jan 2nd. Oh well, at least I don't need a new speedo head...

Yeah, it's a real bummer. Not only do I have to R&R this thing all over again, but I'm sure they are going to make me jump through a bunch of hoops to get another one under warranty. I guess we'll see

Since D&D was closed, I went ahead and sent an Email to Tremec, and I had a response in 30 minutes. From the sound of it, I will have to take the trans to an "authorized rebuilder" and have it repaired under warranty. I can find one nearby in FL and have it fixed here, otherwise I will have to ship it back to D&D.

Oh shut up, so yours leaks, now they are all bad??? I hate this kind of crap in forums. Then we have a guy saying, "I think it takes auto fluid."?? First off, if your not sure, then dont say anything because the last thing we need is someone taking your advice and blowing up the transmission. The Tremec has come with years of praise and they are very strong. Its not like he **** a synchro or something, he busted a plastic piece that actually has no relationship with the transmission in regards to doing the rowing duties. Yeah, you lost your speedometer, but the tranny itself is fine.
As for the guy who blew it up in one day, next time put fluid in the damn thing.

I'm not saying that they are bad trannys by any means, and yes mine does shift fine. I would buy another one without hesitation. My particular case is nothing more then bad luck, though it does make one wonder about quality control issues. And while it's "just" the speedometer, it still means that I have to pull the trans, and then ship it off so my brand new unit can be taken apart and fixed. Mean while I can't drive my car , and I have to invest another 6 hrs or so of labor. Kind of frustrating after spending $1700 on a trans

I got mine right out of the crate and it leaks from the front and the back seals. I'd be careful

Wondering what year Mustang do you have? 94-95 needs a spacer on the driveshaft.

My TKO500 is working good. 3rd is a little notchy like people have said. After break-in it smooths right out.
