I posted this over in the 94-95 section, but I figure you fox guys have as much a shot of knowing this as us sn95 guys.

So I was changing the thromostart and flushing the rad, got everything done, and in the process of screwing the thermostat housing back into the engine block it actually cracked and broke, apparently I overtightened the drivers side bolt.

Do you fellas know if the t-stat housing from a Fox 5.0 is the same as ours? I found a parts data base online that says the part number I am looking for is a FOZZ-8592B, which is the same as the part for a Fox 5.0, however, the T-stat housing from my GTS says its a FOZE-8594A.

The picture I found on the net looks identicaly to the part I'm looking for, but I'd like to be sure.

thanks in advance,

adam

I did the same thing on my old t-stat housing. When I put the t-stat it, it slipped down a little bit and when I tightened it, it broke. I bought the FMS chrome t-stat housing from 50resto.

The stainless steel ones? No problems yet... I don't see this thing warping, it is much thicker than the stock aluminum one. I will keep a look out though, thanks.

the chrome FMS one always seem to warp on me. it is thicker then the stock one, but i would end up getting a leak from it. i would take it off and put it on a table and could see that it some how warp. thats just my experience with them.

Was it the aluminum chrome or stainless chrome?

to be honest i did not know there was two different kinds that FMS made. this is going back a few years that i had them on my car. i just went down to my ford dealer ship that sell hi-po parts and bought the t-stat housing there. sorry i dont know what one it was. is there a big difference between the two?

Stainless steel should be much stronger and hopefully more resistant to warping, I hope. With the base that bolts up to the intake being so thick, I seriously doubt it is going to warp.

Sorry to hijack...

Maybe the stainless steel was their answer? Not sure, but I will keep an eye on it. Thanks,

Just to bring closure to the situation, I got the part from NAPA for 8.83 and it will be here tomorrow morning at 8am. I was pretty surprised at how many people had this same problem, between board responses and PMs I recieved.

FORD - F'ed On Race Day

thanks again,

Adam

I broke my T-stat housing as well I was tightening it down and the T-stat was protruding slighting on the edge....so it got in the way of the intake and housing.....and therefore cracked the housing. Water went everywhere. It was fun.

If not mentioned, Autozone and DAP sell a cast (ugly) housing for 10 bucks. It has a boss for a gauge sender, etc if you need it (why I bought one for the 94), but it also comes with a plug.

If you get that one, be sure to paint it first - they get rusty lookin.

When I was lookin, some guys on the 94-95 side complained of leakage with the chrome housings. Take that for what it is worth.

good luck.

It's definately not aluminum. Summit says it is steel, but what kind? It looks like stainless to me.

The Ford Racing chrome one was warped when I got it from Summit. I put it on when I did my intake swap, I couldn’t figure out way my T-stat was leaking thought it was the new intake. Finally my dad used a straight edge with a feeler gauge and we found our problem, put my stock one on and no problem.

I had one on my orange car that didn't leak, but I don't know what it was made of. I'm curious to know if they improved them or it's just luck of the draw.
