Took my 05 to CCS tuning today in austin to get a dyno tune. Figured id wait to install my throttle body when i got there so i wouldn't have to drive an hour from where i live with a possibe CEL on just in case i installed it wrong. Install seemed pretty simple. Felt like i had enough tension on the return spring. 30 minutes and 2 dyno runs later my car is in fail safe mode and when we took off the cover to check spring tension 4 pieces of plastic fell out that broke off the cover that houses the spring. Now i have to order a new stock throttle body from ford for $330 since they dont replace just that one piece of it. I dont even feel like trying to put the new spring on the new billet throttle body now. Even the owner of the shop said they arent worth the money and the stock one flows well enough. So if someone wants a new motoblue throttle body with only 5 minutes of run time on it let me know.

the spring must have been too tight. Mine still works great. I now have over 1,000 miles on it, no problems. that sucks though. did you install it? or the mechanics? if they installed it, try to get them to repay you for damaging the tb. They most likely installed it with too much tention. you are only supposed to tighten it 1 turn....i hope thats what they did..if not, they owe you money.
before i installed it i called the vendor i bought it from and they said it usually takes 2 to 2 1/2 turns to get the correct tension, or untill the blades close. so i turned it twice which caused the blades to close. Jim said they are a waste of money and to use it in other areas like long tube headers and x-pipe.
Has that shop ever used one? Speaking from experience with an LFP Throttle Body, which was worth every penny, I can definately tell a difference in throttle response as well as feel more torque SOTP. Most mechanics and tuners that I've met are set in their ways and are unwilling to try new product no matter how reputable they are. Here, you have many 05GT owners on many forums stating how great the throttle body is, and this tuner who I'm going to assume never tried one says they are not?
I'm sure your tuner is a great guy and good at what he's doing but they just came out, how would he know how well the stock flowed against it? Just doing a visual you can determine the CNC billet throttle bodies will outflow the stock ones and you'd have to be blind not to see that with no feeling in your butt to feel the difference in responce.
If I didn't allready purchase an LFP Billet Throttle Body for around the same price as a stock one, I probably would buy yours. I'm sure it's not the products fault that the spring failed, something wasn't right with the install. I understand your frustration on the part that broke, I would be pissed too, but that doesn't take away from the fact of these new Throttle Bodies are more efficient over stock.

I read the instructions and they say turn counter clockwise until the spring engages. So, if you start with the blades closed it is about 1/2 turn. When I disassembled the stock unit I believe that it unsprung by about 1-2 turns. When I assembled the LFP TB I was not sure at first as far as spring tension was concerned. I followed the instructions which said turn until the spring engages with common sense and the blades closed. It seemed to me anymore would be too much.
I think your tuner owes you dude - if he did the install

no i installed it. and before i did i called the place i ordered it from and talked to their tech line and they said 2 to 2 1/2 turns. Now i'm pissed to the point of should i try to put it on again with the spring from the new stock throttle body and see how it does with just one turn of the spring. or if i should just return the throttle body for a refund. Unless someone local is looking to buy one.
