you guys can prolly relate. you pay a decent price to race. they don't prep the track. get pissed at you for going to fast down pit road (20mph I had a cop radar me no ****) I have a high 13 capable car 98gt with 4.10s pi intake and cams and exhaust. so I get up to the smoke box and burn down my expensive sticky thompsons, I sat there at 3200 rpm for no less than 30 secs after both of us had staged, by that time I got annoyed and just took off in second and went to 5th. basically bs... I ran a 14.05 at 99mph with a 2.1 60ft. got pissed and quit. all I want is to run a damn high 13 for my basically stock 281 pile. does anyone know of a track that actually hooks and is open past 8 in indiana, bsides at oreillys? hell I hook better on the damn street.

Did you go through the water box? Believe it or not, you should really just roll around the water box, and reverse into it if your running slicks. If not just skip it all together. Water from the front tires will come back and make the rear tires spin. I wouldnt blame it so much on the track. I go to a track that is notoriously known for having the worst traction in the state (Orlando Speedworld), and yet I can follow the rules, and go the speed limit down the pit road, and still pull a 1.8 on street tires.

I just noticed you left in 2nd? Why did you do that. You are not doing something right, if you are running thompsons, you should be able to leave in 1st and not spin and break a 13. Does your track have a tree?

You cant expect your first run at a track to be good. It'll be about the 3rd or 4th time that you run that you get the time you want. Even if you think you just did the best you could, your next time will always be better. That is if you know how YOU can improve the last run, and not just blame it on the track.

Sounds to me like frustration got to you and you had a botched run due to it. Why not get back in line and try again? Part of the challenge of racing is dealing with tire spin, cool down times, trying to see what the car likes and doesn't like.

Did you run the 14.05 by going into 5th gear? If so take it back, make sure you don't let emotions get to you, and make a clean pass. It will go 13s if thats the case!

What I can't stand is people who make a big deal staging thier near stock street car as though it was a top fuel dragster.

I remember this one guy had a old Nova, sounded mean, but I kid you not he did about three burnouts where we went about 100ft after the start line, then backed up, then did it again. Finally got staged up, of course he wouldn't do anything until I was already fully staged. He kept clearing the carb revving it up. Took at least two minutes. When the light finally went green he bogged it, then spun out, then nearly lost it and almost hit the gaurd rail. I dusted his ass. It wasn't even a race. Even if it was running right, car had no power. I saw him on the way out on the track and he made some lame excuse. I challenged him to a supra style highway run starting at 75mph, he said it topped out at 105mph, what a loser, lol.

I can relate, seems like everytime i go to the track they never prep it, and are completly disorganized. There was one time i went, paid 30 to race and got 3 passes in. Another time i was there for a track rental, paid $100 for the day, and they shut down at 3pm... I've hat the car hook once at that particular track, and that was when they were running the F.A.S.T class, so they were prepping the ba-jesus out of it that day.

All i can say is getting frustrated isnt going to do anything for you, just make the best of the situation.

the 14.05 was running 1-4th launched well but spun, no 5th gear. the one where I took off in 2nd. was the one where the dumbass wouldn't drop the tree and im sitting there at 3200 for a while. I guess I just got frustrated, that's when I went to 5th. my buddies car (bolt ons 5.0 hatch 100 shot] he only ran a 13.50 on spray. when he has ran 12.20's on spray. ill try another track prolly friday. and see what the outcome is.

LVD is hit or miss with traction, NED I usually hook. I think what your car is set up for changes the tracks. My dad hooks at LVD fine, but his car is set up right.

NED to me is where most of my bests have come from. It is 3+ hours away, and we only drive there for events.

OP: hit another track if you have one semi local. A track can make a big difference.

Yea my car should hook its scaled properly and has an anti-roll bar, ive even tried ET streets there and i could only get a 1.78 60' on mickey DR's ive been 1.65. The day i had the ET streets on the car it seemed like nobody was hooking, even my friend in his supra, who never has a problem(and he had the boost turned down), was spinning real hard. I was watching mini-tubbed cars blow the tire off

I used to drive up to muncie and race at muncie dragway. They used to prep out to the 60ft mark on test and tune night. Its a long drive though.

50droptop: im in mooresville right now. i go up to greenwood on 31 on the weekends to hang with some people. im trying to get some people to go with me to muncie. lmk if you down to go here in like a week or so..

Im stangless right now. Had some personal issues and needed $ so I had to sell it. Otherwise I would go in a heartbeat to race.

last weekend I went to the track and watch some fool make an arse out of himself. He does a burnout in his 2005+ vette and pulls forward to stage. The starter however placed a cone on the track to make him go around and stage outside of the groove as he believed the vette was running street radials. The vette driver kept creeping towards the cone even while the starter kept yelling and waving at him to stop. He completely ignored the starter and finally started pushing the cone and eventualy ran over it with the front valence of his car! Finally someone in this guys camp comes over and tells the starter he has drag radials and the starter lets him stage in the groove. Didn't matter though, he spun the rubber off the track for the first 60' feet anyways.

Then a few runs later this yahoo comes up to the starter while he's staging cars and engages him in a huge verbal / screaming match right in the middle of the racing action. What an a$$ hat! They didn't even kick him off the track. It was ridiculous.

Moral of the story:

Be patient and have fun. If you are stressed out by the way things are going, time to pack it in or stop going. try not to worry or get upset about things you can't control. I do understand yoru frustrations too as I have experienced them as well. Nothing like waiting in the staging lanes for two hours to make a run..........

Also forget your expectations for et's and wins, it will put too much pressure on you. Good luck!
