I think it would be neat to hear some opinions on building a quick 2v for 10-12k. I'm looking at possibly buying another 2v mustang, and would like some input on to what to do to it. The car will be a track car, with minimal street use. Please include

1. Vehicle year and approximate price(avg going price)
2. Mods and price(all forced induction mods' price should be new)
3. Tire/wheel/suspension combo.

with all, let's include average labor cost.

Are you including the price of the car itself in there for 10-12k?

If you are...you are going to have a tough time without just spraying it...

Figure 8k for a car...don't even have room left for the cost of a blower...not to mention labor, fuel, etc...

You could always make a quicker car...but not a "fast" track only car...rims and slicks/skinnies are around a grand...

Thanks man. my last gt, I bought for 4600. You can get a used PI 2v for around 4-5 now. Blowers can be had for around 1500-2000 if you shop right. My last 2 sets of drag wheels, I payed around 550 for.

It depends on what you think quick is? If its mostly a track car, quick to me would be low 11s - high 10s. Hell in todays standards you better have a 11 sec car to even compete with the "quick" STREET CARS let alone the fast ones.

If you pick up a 2V for $5k its still going to need a built motor, rearend, trans work, fuel system, and blower. Even if you pick up all the parts used you would be hard pressed to get it all for under $5k.

If your gonna build a track only car, why not just build a pushrod Fox coupe? U could make that thing into a 10 second car for less than 12k, I doubt u could even come close to that with a modular stang on that budget....

If it was me, I would just buy this car, although whomever placed the ad doesnt sound like he knows very much about stangs.....

if you gutted the car and had 450 HP you should be able to make a decent "track car".
drop all the extra weight you can and just get a centri s/c with some suspension and it should make it into the 11's

Where are you buying a new blower for 2000? I would like to see that so I can buy them and start reselling them....

You can find a used one for that price...but not new...no way..

did you get all 4 wheels and tires for that price?

98 stang, meant head unit, sorry.

I was thinking about

1. 99-00 PI GT 4-5k
2. Built Rear end and gears($1200-1500), Bolt ons, exhaust and a 125 shot($2500), Fox springs, lower control arms, shocks and struts(1000)
3. Summit Stars and ET streets (1200)

Should be good for 7.50's?

I'm not looking for a 10 second car. Just a 7.50-7.70 car which should be good for 11's.

Maybe...but don't forget labor prices in there...fuel upgrades (400), dyno tune and chip (600)...

96-98 NPI GT for 3-4k.

Hunt for bargain PI swap, full exhaust (longtubes), gears, and nitrous.

Leave everything else as-is and upgrade it if/when it breaks. Forget all of the bolt ons because they dont do **** on our cars in the big picture.

I'd PI swap it and have it tuned VERY safely on nitrous. You COULD run a 150 wet shot on a stock fuel pump, but with age and all a SVT Focus pump swap is not expensive compared to toasting your pistons because the factory pump gave up the ghost going down the track.

That takes care of the power...

If it's a drag car, forget lowering it. Leave the stock GT suspension and grab some Lakewood adjustable struts/shocks and call it a day.

Can't go wrong with some Mickey T's as far as laying the power down, and the Summit Star wheels look nice and are well priced.

If it's a track only car, say bye bye to extra weight. I'm sure you know more than enough what to do to shed the pounds off of these cars.

That is what I would do. In the end you will have money left over to break, replace, and UPGRADE parts.

Say $4-600 for the PI swap + install if you aren't doing it yourself.
$150 for a new set of gears + install if you arent doing it yourself.
$400-$1000 for nitrous depending on exactly what you want and how safe you want to be.
$100-$130 for the Focus pump + install if you aren't doing it yourself.
$300-$400 for a tune.
$300 +/- for the shocks/struts
Weight reduction is a freebie.
And around $1200 like you said for wheels/tires. But hell, stock 17's with some stickies out back work almost as well. However they are added rotational mass.
