Building a 2.3

I am about to embark on a 2.3 Project car, this car will probably end up being turbo'd, but for the time being i just have some questions i was hoping that someone could answer.........really just one quick question.........Should I go with a Single Plug 2.3 Engine or a Dual Plug Engine??? and why....I know with the single plus timing issues are easier, but is that the only advantage....i'm not worried about the internals of the engines they will be replaced, but just wondering about the Plug issue..........Thanks

I don't really think it makes too much of a difference. Having the dual plug head will not give you and added horsepower or anything. The only thing abot the dual plug head was that in the years that they existed, there were some internal engine modifications, therefore they were rated at higher hp. However, the higher hp numbers had nothing to do with the dual plugs themselves. DP heads are supposed to burn a little more efficiently I do believe but other than that I dont see an advantage. You can't set your own timing with a DP head I dont think, so that could be a reason to go with a single plug head. Thats about all I know is different about the DP head, I dont really know too much about them or if there is even that much to know. I hope my tidbit helps a bit and Im sure somebody else who is more knowledgable on the topic will share there information with you soon.

That's right, the dual plugs were for emissions and the power increase was due to increased compression and the roller cam, maybe other minor things. But the intake manifold is no better and I heard the newer head performs even worse... If you did the same upgrades to the pre 91 engine you would probably get more than 105hp.

also you have plug wires everywhere and coil pack ignition which cannot be adjusted.

I pretty much agree with everyone on this and I have seen both motors with turbos on them. If it was me I would probly go with the standared 2.3T since its already set up for it. I mean its got the forged pistons and oil return in the block.

Single is easier to go turbo with, single doesn't like n/a mods (cams, etc.). Just depends how soon you want to make power.
