The other day I drive into a car wash (the kind that is brushless of course) and I pull in just like everybody else. I get my car wash and everything is a wonderfull experience untill I get home.

When I got home, I decided to put the stuff on the tires to make them glossy. When I started to do the left front tire, I noticed that the lip on the rim had been scraped. I started thinking what could I have possibly rubbed up against that would have caused a scrape about 3 inches in length on the lip of the rim??? Then I realized that it was the metal bar on the ground of the car wash that is used to guide the vehicle into place. This was where the damaged had been done.

It cost me $150.00 to get a new rim. I kicked myself in the ars just because of going to the stupid car wash.

So my question is have any of you experienced this same problem and are the rims really made out of soft material? What are your thoughts?

Are you sure someone didn't hit a curb?

Naaa . I am positive. I only drive that car. My wife hates driving it and I am positive that I did not hit a curb. I did notice a slite nudge when I drove into the car wash but not enough to scrape the rim like that. Besides the tube is cylindrical so I wouldnt imagine it scraping like that.

Twice

I have done the same thing twice, except I filed, and buffed the scrape out.
150 bucks for a rim is to much for me to pay, at least right now.

I usually wash mine myself, or take it to a full hand wash place. I took it to a brushless place twice, and the second time the front driver side wheel got a small ding on the lip. It's pretty small, but I have never taken to a brushless place again.

Dude. Just do what I have been doing since Day 1

Wash your car your self at the car washing Bays.

And I also have scapes on my rims. Cause Im a crazy mudda ***kah that drive like a PSYKOOOOOOOOOOOOOooOoooOOOOooOooo

I plan on gettin those Steeda rims soon. after that I will beware of curbes lol

Yea well I thought about filling and buffing mine, but it was such a scratch I didnt see it going away. Anyways, now I know to not take it to a drive-inn car wash... its a shame though. I dont always have time to wash my car so I just take it to one of those places and it gets me by until I can do it myself... Its good to know that I am not the only one that has done this.

If you drive your car rim scuffs are going to happen sooner or later. Some of the newer tires actually have a lip on the sidewall to protect them.

Don't feel bad, the same ***** happened to me on all four tires. Hell one car wash even bent my rim lip a little. I was pissed at first, but you'll get over it. I just keep telling myself I'll buy new rims when my tires go bald.

you bought a new rim because the outer lip was scraped!? You know how many times I have scraped curbs and FVKED up my rims? all it takes is 10-15 minutes with some steel wool, mothers aluminum polish and it's like new again, man I thought I was anal about my car..


p.s. unless you gouged up the actual rim then I can see, but the outer lip is very soft and can be smoothed out in no time, just a little FYI for the future, good luck.

I never go to ANY kind of car wash...EVER. Wash by hand or don't wash it at all. That's my rule.

Agreed. Very easy to fix. I use a sanding block though instead of steel wool.
