Going to be replacing the bumper cover on a 91 lx this weekend and other than the rivets that hold the new bumper cover, does the headlight mounting panel use rivets also or is that piece bolted up, and if so how many more rivets will it take other than the ones for the bumper cover?

Thanks :nice:

Found somebody who has a bumper cover thats already riveted to the headlight mounting panel and he said the whole assembly can be just bolted right up without having to fool with rivets, except of course drilling out the old ones on the one thats already on my car. Is that true?

Thanks

Not sure if you are done with the replacement but I did mine on my 87 GT, and currently have it off the car for paint. It may be easier to pull the whole thing off and then drill out the rivets and install the reinforcement panel on the fascia while it is off the car. There may be 2 rivets that attach the assembly to the car itself on the upper front corners but the whole assembly really just bolts up to the car and you should be able to unbolt it in about 15 minutes once you pull the headlights. The hardest part is getting to the bolts that connect it to the fenders and not stripping the studs out of the brackets. If you strip out the studs you can just use a regular nut and bolt as a replacement. The GT also has a seperate fog light support bracket that attaches to the reinforcement panel and the fascia is riveted to it on the bottom. Not sure how the LX one attaches at the bottom, I am sure it has something similar. The ford manuals have pretty good instructions with diagrams.

Good Luck,
