hello guys im new to the site but im pretty familiar with these cars. I'm having a problem with burning some oil. ive noticed sometimes at higher rpms im leaving a smoke cloud behind me. The only thing is that it doesnt do it all the time. I had an oil leak at the rear of the lower intake so last weekend i decided to replace the intake gaskets and the valve guide seals thinking that those might be the cause but its still doing the same thing. I thought it might be the rings but the thing that gets me is sometimes i can run it hard from 1st to 5th gear and it doesnt even smoke a lil bit. the car has around 150,000 miles on it.. could the pcv be sucking this much oil? any ideas would be very helpful..

Have you smelled your dip stick lately ' im having the same problem ' i narrowed it down to gas going into my oil pan . Check out your compression in the cylinders to.

Just a thought.

I would also do a cylinder leak down test. I like this test much better since it gives you a better aid to try and pinpoint the problem. Like if you hear air from the oil filler cap then you may have pressure leaking by the rings, air leaking through the exhaust or intake may be a burnt valve, etc.

Is there oil in the pcv hose?
Pull the hose and look...

Is there oil in the TB/VC hose?

Yes, you can burn that much oil through the pcv.

compression check is a good start to rule out major issues.

If the car idles for long periods the oil burn through the pcv can get much worse.
From my experience anyway...

well... i went to do a compression test today and my gauge was broke so i guess ill have to wait for the tool truck to come by before i can do it. Funny thing is on my way home yesterday and my way to and from work today no smoking whatsoever!! i left the pcv open to atmosphere and capped off lines at the intake 3 days ago and it was still smokin til yesterday. so it still smoked for two days after i took the pcv out of the equation. i cant wait to get a new gauge so maybe i can see what the hell is goin on!!! nothing more embarassing than a smoking ass car!!
