burnouts at track on street tires?

Should I do a burnout to warm the tires on my street mustang 87 5.0 before the 1/4 mile rune at the track? I never did it on my Yamaha FJ600...

I do a small one just to get any crap off the tires. I go around the water, and dont back in, just a small few second one, nothing big at all. I have only run street radials once, but had a bunch of 2.0 60's on my first passes, and this worked for me!

If you like to do a quick spin to clear off any rocks or anything that is fine, but nothing more -- and certainly not anything John Force style.

street tires are pretty much useless for me,and my car is mostly stock...could have something to do with the 6 grand launches

the track i go to requires you to do a burn out to heat your tire up i just do a small one with my stock tires is that a normal reguirement

No, that's bull**** as far as I'm concerned. Any good track won't require you to do a burn out....especially on street tires, that's just stupidity by them to make you do that. The grooves on street tires can track water down the track making traction even worse.

I don't buy into the "do a burnout on street tires" deal. Street (DOT approved) tires that aren't of the drag radial persuasion are made to resist heat, so why heat them up?

I just cleaned them off and that is that...

thats right....i only run the street tires when i have to...and i dont launch that high with them on...but i did have to try it a few times gotta love them half track burnouts!!

It depends on what type of street tire also. Im using potenza S03's and they need to be heated up to soften them. Yet they can be driven everyday and are DOT approved. If I try to just clean them I have no traction. So I do a nice dry burnout until they bog down to get them heated and soft. Theyre not as soft as drag radials, but its enough to get the car going without hitting the wall.
