I like 3.73's in my 5-speed. I've heard the 4.10's are better fo auto's though. You'll need bearings, races, a crush collar and shims for your install. The crush collar and shims should come with your kit if you're buying FRPP. The bearings and races you can get from a local auto or bearing store. You'll also need a gauge to measure backlash. Doing gears is one of the harder things to do yourself.
you will need all the bearings, races, and crush sleeve, maybe consider getting a few crush sleeves if you are doign it by yourself in case you mess up. this would also be a good time to get a girdle with studs. alsol make sure that you get a new pinion nut. o and you will need fluid.
You will also need something to correct
the Speedo.A computer programer or a
burnt chip would be the quick fix.I would
also choose the 4.10's since you have an
auto.I like my 4.10's
Do the FRPP gears come with instructions? I actually know a mechanic who would do it for me but he hasnt put one in since the early 90's... I'd like to be safe.
No, mine didnt come with instructions. If you are that unsure, pay someone else to do it. There are way to many things that can go wrong in a gear install that just arent worth having to do a second time. JMHO...
races are what the bearings ride in. the crush sleeve goes in there the pinion rides and provides preload on the pinion bearings. if you tighten the pinion nut too much you ruin the crush sleeve and you need to replace it.
Hey, do you think I should search that SRT forum in your signature and find out the best way to get the old fluid out of the rearend? Maybe I could put it on jackstands and loosen 1/2 the bolts on the cover and put it in 1st and floor it???? HAHAHAHA
haha that was my absolute fav srt post ever. the kid couldnt get the drainplug off the oil pan so he just took off the filter and ran the motor till it ran out of oil. i think after 17 pages of people signing up to tell the guy and everyone on the page they were morons then deleted the thread.
