Buying 97+ Mustang

Theres a huge difference between getting a cobra of any year and getting a GT of any year. The Cobra has so much more potential than the GT does. I'm just saying that no matter what year GT u get of the 4.6 you can make them equal with just the PI head swap. So like I said before it all comes down to the money issue. If you can find a 99+ GT for a good price then get that and save yourself the trouble of the PI head swap, but if you can find a really good deal on a 96-98 GT dont be scared to get it because people tell you that they are crap and cant compare to the 99+ GT's. If you can definetely pick up the cobra though DOHC 32V are amazing especailly when it comes to boost.
 
$9,500 for a 99 gt 32k miles owned by a 60 yr old man. If you like the 96-98 body more get a cobra unless you plan on dropping big money if you want to go fast at all. If you dont care about how fast your car is get whatever the hell you want maybe a v6. But as far as horsepower per dollar look 99+ or cobra.
 
I dont know where u guys live but u cant find a 99+ GT with 60K or less miles for under 10K here in Arizona. Like I said before if u can find a 99+ GT for good awesome get that just dont be scared to buy a 96-98 whoever was saying it takes massive amounts of work and money doesnt know what a PI head swap is. If you can find a 99+ GT with 60K or less miles for 9K I'm sure u could find a 96-98 GT the same way for 7K and do the PI head swap u just saved yourself $500 and now you are faster then a 99+ GT.

If I was you I would find a way to buy this.....he raised the price he is asking to 12k...was at 10,500$ so you know he is at least willing to let it go for that and possibly less....car is badass

I guess you need to know what you want out of the car before you decide what you want to buy.....

This is good advice - to decide what you want out of the car you desire. The 94-98 is essentially the same body style, so you need to decide if you can first afford the cost of the Cobra and insurance. Then go out and find the best condition one you can, in the price range.

Now I don't agree with the cost of making a 96-98 to be as fast as a bone stock 99+ as my '98 on the dyno as proof point. My major mods: PI cams ($200), PI intake ($200 ), catted mid pipe ($400), pulleys ($150) ~$1,000. I did the labor myself, but these parts were all new. If you were to buy atleast some of these parts used, you can lower the price even more.

To me, they are all good choices and would be happy with any in the SN95 style - that's just me though.

how hard were the cams to put in? and you didnt mention PI heads....I didnt know you could use the PI cams on non pi heads. :shrug: Also...was there a big diff in SOTP feel with the pi intake and cams? I wanna improve the top end...but cant dish out all that cash for the heads.
 
buy a 96 or 97 & just slap a blower on it. thats what i did to my 96. i just have 26000 miles on it, thats why i did it. if the car has high miles it's not worth it in my opinion. but thats up to you. good luck :nice:
 
It seems like some people cant accept the fact that the 96-98 arent nearly as bad as people make them out to be. Sure factory they arent as good as the 99+ but it takes 1 modification to make them better than the 99+ GT's and if you can find the parts for the right price you can save yourself a ton of money by going for the 96-98 route. Chad are u in Az right now or did you used to live here?

Sweet S/C btw...

The way I did it (taking off the front engine cover) was time consuming, but not too hard. There is a Cam tool that saves about half the time because you don't have to take the front engine cover off anymore. It is put out by AFM - Anderson Ford. Yes, the PI cams bolt right into the NPI heads and use the stock springs also. I did feel a lot of sotp down low and up top with the cams and with the PI intake really just the upper end. Big cash saver over new PI heads, but if you have the skills and maybe a little more cash a used set of PI heads would yield even more hp.

I lived in Az for about 20 years.....been in vegas for a little over 2 years...but I am back and forth a few times a year.....most of my family still lives in AZ..I am from chandler/tempe area... :D

cool man thanx...deff a project to think about for the spring. hopefully over the winter i can find a set of used heads. If not i might just have to cheap out and go with juice.
