Buying a cobra

I am selling my current car, a 96 Impala SS. I am currently looking into buying either a 2003 or a 2004 cobra. A dealership near me has a 2003 that they car selling for like 9,000 under sticker price. My question is was there any problems that came about with the 2003's that they fixed with 2004's or are they exactly the same. The other thing is I live in michigan, is there anyone that drives their cobra in the winter?

depending on how froggy u are, u can probably drive it in the winter with no problems. just get some good tires that can handle it. i used to drive my 5.0 with draglite rims on in the snow/winter time LOL! talk about crazy!

i cannot recall any major problems with the 03/04 cobras and i dont see any complaints about them either. i know my goal in life is to own one of those!

You probably want to take some time and read through the 03/04 Cobra FAQ over in the "terminator" section of the svtperformance.com msg board, linked below:

It should cover most, if not all, of the problems that some of the '03s were prone to...as far as driving in the winter here in MI, well that's your option. You can certainly drive it in the winter, but you'll have to take your time, and be smooth (gas, brake, and turning) when it's slick outside.

Driving it in winter is doable IMHO, but for some people (including myself), it's not a great idea if you plan on keeping your vehicle because of the amount of salt that MDOT leaves on our roads. And then you have to deal with inexperienced drivers sliding all over the roadways too. I let the beater car handle winter duty. LOL

IMO.... go with the 04 Mystichrome Coupe.... If ever there was a sexier color, i've yet to see it.

The Lightning comes with a sticker in the door jamb advising that the Goodyear F1 tires on it are not designed for snow.

I have never tried it in the L but had thought about the following: 450 TQ + light rear end + 3.73 gears + wide tires = Way to much fun for me.

Drive the next safest vehicle. The 94 GT Vert

There is one problem with 03' cobras. I got to rev one up a couple weekends ago and they are SOOO damn quiet. My mom's passat is louder than that. I cannot stand a car that has a lot of power and no sound to back it up. One day when i get one (and i will), first thing i'm doing is LT, Prochamber, and dumps.

Why do you have to sale the SS? That is a pretty hot commodity and can be seen as a Beast of a car. I would keep the SS and save up money for the Cobra. The SS is a 4 door car, and you might need the room one day. Good luck in your Cobra hunting, for there aren't too many more left.
