Buying a Fox... Where to look for rust.

I'll help ya out.

Left front corner of roof and windshield.

Front area of floor boards where they weld to the bottom of the firewall.

Rear area of floor pans where they weld to the torque boxes.

Pull up the trunk carpet and check the trunk floor over the frame rails.

Front frame rails where they meet the strut towers. The headers like to heat the chit out of that area and rot them out.

Behind the rear wheels the lower quarter area. They are notorious to hold moisture, dirt and mud in there.

Obvious areas like the doors, trunk/hatchlid, fenders etc...

IF you buy a GT, make sure you may a few extra bucks for a clean, lower mileage one. The ground effects hide ALOT. I bought one for parts only that looked solid. I pulled the moldings off, and there was no metal behind there.....haha

look under the front to see if the radiator support is straight and rust free. Also, yes that rust will require extensive repairs. I can only imagine how much rust is inside that quarter/ rocker area. Rust like cancer doesn't sleep. If you don't get it all out, it will come back to haunt you.

NOT worth it. There are still Foxes that can be had for cheap with no rust, or very little surface rust that can be fixed by a little sanding and rattle canning. If its growing from the inside out, its too far gone.

A spot that I see rust on a lot of cars is the lip of the trunk/hatch lid right above the license plate. Moisture seems to collect in there.

I know the northeast is a tough place to find to find a solid, and or affordable 5.0, but there are some over there. If you hold out the right car will come along. I would rather find a car from the west coast, and either drive it or ship it, than fix bad rust any day. It would probably be cheaper in the end

Yeah, man forget that one. You want your girl to have something solid and safe. If the rust is that prominent on the outside, then most likely it is in every body seam, which is not worth fixing. Unless you plan on using the car for a short time, and parting it out, I wouldn't buy it.

It will cost more to properly fix it, than the car would be worth. DON'T buy it

I have done body work, and restoration professionally. Take my advice. DO NOT buy that car, you will regret it. I guarantee, that car has already been painted in the past, to hide rust. The only way to fix the rocker panel, and lower rear quarter is to cut the rust out, and section in new metal, but even then, it's probably spread further inside the rocker panel, and body

I'm not trying to discourage you, but the only way to get all the rust out is to totally strip the car down, and either dip, or blast the body. You will never get it all out otherwise. Keep looking man, just trying to help you
