Buying new rims...17's or 18's?

I am going to get new rims shortly but am unsure if I should get 17's or 18's. Which are better for performance...not street racing or racing at the track, because I don't do either. I would like to get Saleen rims... but.... I saw some deep dish ones on a True Blue Stang earlier and :nice:

I personally think that it is not worth upgrading your rims if you arent going to get 18's. I think they look much better. You can tell the difference. What are you talking about when you mean better performance??? You said, "Which are better for performance...not street racing or racing at the track..." What performance are you talking about???

18's look nice, but the big draw back with them is the cost of tires. Tires cost a considerable amount more then their 17" counterparts. Other than that I would call it a draw. I have had both, and the price of tires is the only "real" diffference that you will notice.

either one will look great , 18s cost more and tires cost more too , just something to think about

What I meant by performance wise Bone answered....they slow you down, now how much I'm not sure but I have heard that before that they slow you down. And tires....yea, they do kill! :( But hey, it's worth it right!

Where did everyone get their rims from? I have not really found any good prices, let alone one's that come with a tire package.

Tiffany- I have new tires and the 18'' Saleen chrome replica rims waiting to be installed on my car.

As someone has mentioned, the only drawback is the tire price. I bought 4 BFG KDW's 265/35/18. They cost $240 per tire....includes mount and balance. To give you an idea of what the same tire would cost in the 17'' version......a friend of mine got them for his stock 17'' rims and it cost $205 a tire. So as you can see it is roughly $150 more for the set.

Ever since I bought my GT over three years ago I have wanted the chrome Saleen rims. And now I am finally getting them.

I'd go with 18's if I were you. They look so much better. If you plan on getting rims, let me know and I will tell you were to go for a great deal.

Good Luck. :nice:

How much better do 17" look than 16" ? :D

Lost 3 mph in the 1/4 going from 16" to 18" but the look definitely makes up for it  As others have mentioned, tire prices :owned: me

I found out the "bigger rims slow you down" the hard way. I had an '89 Mazda RX7 Turbo II that I upgraded from 16's to 17's on. Afterwards, the car felt noticably slower from a start. When asking about it, I found out how bigger rims with wider tires will slow you down. I never knew that was going to happen ... However, the car looked sooooo good with those bigger rims and wide-ass tires. I'm not a big import fan, but I sure wish I still had that car....
