the reason I am bypassing the pump is that I don't want to go through all the hassle of welding, bending, tweaking the tube to feed the oxygen to the exhaust, especially for something that is totally unnecessary now that I have no cats, and havent for 3 years now. I went through all that trouble when I got the BBK O/R H but don't wanna do it again.

strange. mine actually lined up perfectly before i removed the tube. it would have taken about 4 inches of heater hose to have made mine connect.

i tryed a smaller belt today but i couldnt figure out how to get it tight with the tensioner pulley?What did you guys do about that.I hope this aint a dumb question.

i want to bypass mine for the same reason as 95rio.i want to get rid of the smog pipe by the exhaust and the other.

if anyone has a pic showing the belt off the smog pump and just around the others,that wil be nice

I removed mine because my EGR started sticking. The car would run funny and you could see the plunger not moving like it should poke it with a screwdriver and it would move and start working again.

It was cheaper and easier to work on the car without it there. I just recently found a new solution to cap the manifold bung, and set the EGR sensor where it won't trigger the Check Engine Light.

WRONG!

IF YOU OWN A COBRA READ UP.

You cannot just run a short belt and be done with it.

Thanks to Ford adding a Oil cooler of sorts (or a oil heater in most conditions IMO) You WILL have to remove the oil cooler lines or they will rub on the belt when you route it without the smog pump.:SNSign:



You guys with GT's don't know of the PITA that is moving the oil cooler lines. Be glad...

oh, sorry for the misinformtation, i had no idea the cobra had that. Ill keep that in my head about cobras for now on.

I used a small belt that bypasses the idler pulley, smog, and ac, but the only one i could get the tensioner bottoms out and you can here it hitting itself. Heres the part number from autozone. 812k6. A good thread with tons of info on this is http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=521165

Welp, Labora was right....the oil cooler lines are definitely in the way.

so....no short belt for me, and I'm not willing to take the smog pump off. I made the factory smog tube work with some hi-temp silicone heater hose.( )

if your worried about cleaning up the engine bay that oil cooler mess should be the first thing to go. i noticed absolutely no difference in oil temp with that thing removed.

Not to press the issue by why won't you just use the pulley and get all that crap out of your way in the engine bay?

i used the pulley also for the ac and smog pump. it cost more than just using a short belt but it beats making a million trips to the parts store to match up a belt. by removing all the smog gear it definetly cleaned things up.

Cuz I am graduating college in 2 months, and don't know what state I will end up in. If the state has emissions I will need the smog pump and I don't wanna have to go through the hassle of reinstalling all that. If I end up where they don't have emissions testing, I probably will end up removing all of it.

What does backpressure feel like? If you want to check for an exhaust restriction, you can hook up a vac gauge. Hold the RPM at 3K rock steady (while stationary) and watch the vac gauge. If the reading drops after 30 seconds or so, that indicates an exhaust restriction.
