i recently changed my torque converter and am hving a hard time determining how much fluid to put in it.
dipstic in pan tci streetfighter
10 inch tci 3000 stall torque converter
aftermarket dipstick
tci states that a c4 holds 5.5 qt and a 10 inch converter holds 3
i went out and bought a 10 qt jug of tractor fluid poured out 2 into a separate container(8 qt now in jug). i put some in the new torque converter, drained the tranny, installed torque converter and dumped the rest of jug in tranny.
when i get on it hard i get fluid out of the breather(i put a hose on it and mounted on the firewall) it did that once and never repeated with tci converter.
i know the dipstick is way off when i first got the tranny and a hughes converter when filled to the full mark it took forever to go into gear. so i put on pint in at a time till it went firmly into gear and added another quart, about 10 total on a 12 inch converter.
do you think maybee i have another problem pump pickup or something. im stumped it works fine over full but is a thin line between not spitting out and starving for oil
