My 64 1/2 convertable has a fluid leak that is coming out around the transmission gear selector shaft. It seems that after you shut off the engine the fluid drains back out of the converter into the transmission. This raises the fluid level above the selector shaft, and that is when it starts to leak. No leaks while engine is running.
Is there a way to correct this problem without pulling the transmission? If I have to pull the transmission, what will it take to fix the leak?
I'm thinking that this may be a typical issue with C4's. Yes???

Yes it can be repaired without removeing the trans but you will need to remove the pan and valvebody. There's a nut that attaches the selector shaft to the detent bracket that has to be removed and the kick down lever. After that its remove and install seal. Be sure to install a new oring around the kick down shaft too.
