Could someone please help? I am trying to identify the transmission in my car I know it is a C4 but I don’t know what year. Can this be accomplished with the transmission in the car? Where is the best place to look to get the casting numbers and a decoder for these numbers? I have found these numbers on a plate on the side and C6AF-TD027-C and another on the tail shaft is C6027A01”or 4”C. I want to put a shift kit in it and need to know which one I have. :(

Looks like a 66 by the 'C' = 1960's & '6' = digit of current year production. However, they were in everything from full size to Econolines. No tag on the low-reverse servo cover bolt? Anyone else?

The numbers you gave are PART numbers of the part, like 7a01c, it should read 7a039 this is the part number of all C4 and C6 tail shafts.
You need to look for a metal tag bolted to the drivers side servo for the correct number. there are a few different models like the small 24 spine input shaft and the larger 26 spine. there is also different valve bodies for each year. The number your looking for starts with a "P". An example would be a 65 mustang with a 289 would be PCW-H or PCW-J
