C4 Kickdown Help

I have a 69 Mustang 302 with a C4. I am unable to make the kickdown work. I have the factory rod/linkage. Does anyone know if there is a link to show me how to adjust it? The transmission works fine, other then the kickdown. Any help is apprecitated.

Unfortunately there is not any information, at least that I can find, on how to adjust your kick down linkage. I've got a 73 and back when I had a C4 I accidentally broke my kick down rod trying to adjust (bent it in various ways ) so it would work with the 351w I replaced my 302 with.

I had to find a way to put the linkage rod back together (JB Weld and Duck Tape) and then adjust the linkage arm on the tranny. I actually adjusted the shifter linkage as well, but only because I was stupid. Anyway I had to play with a while until I was happy with the kickdown's operation.

THROTTLE KICKDOWN LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT

1.

Move the carburetor throttle linkage to the wide open position.
2.

Insert a 0.060 in. thick spacer between the throttle lever and the kickdown adjusting screw.
3.

Rotate the transmission kickdown lever until the lever engages the transmission internal stop. Do not use the kickdown rod to turn the transmission lever.
4.

Turn the adjusting screw until it contacts the 0.060 in. spacer.
5.

Remove the spacer.

oh and this...

The way I adjust my Locak C4 kickdown (and I
believe it's in the Ford service manual) is to
set the cable (or lever) so that the kick down
lever is at it's maximum travel when the throttle
is at it's maximum travel. In other words, when
your foot is on the floor, the linkage shoud have
the kickdown lever on the trans against it's
internal
stop.

I was in the garage today looking at my kickdown linkage. Something is definately not cool. The kickdown rod is clipped to the carb linkage and connected to the transmission but... the rod is just laying there. Should there be a spring to hold it up (toward the front of the car)? Any chance anyone has a picture of the linkage on a car that works?

No it's ok there is no spring on the kick down leaver. It's simply clipped to the linkage on the carb. I wish I could help you out with a picture, but I kicked the C4 to the curb in favor of a 5 speed Tremec 3550.

Anyone else?????
