Hi Folks, I know this has been covered before, but not quite to my satisfaction. I am getting mixed messages, so I was hoping someone can clear this up for me.

I have a C4 transmission that was pulled from some other vehicle. I was told it was behind a 351C. It is going in my 68 Coupe behind a 351C, and all looks good with it so far except I am not sure what to do about the linkage. It SEEMS that the shift lever should be pointing straight up, and have found a couple pics on the net that indicate this. Still, the levers seem to look a bit different. I am not sure if this is going to cause problems.

Is it true I need to drop the pan and remove tranny internals to switch this? Is it an easy enough process? Trannys scare me, so I have never attempted to work on one. Also I need to make sure the downshift is turned correctly. I think I know what to, I just need some confirmation.

The two pics show the setup- one with the linkage turned counter clockwise, the other turned clockwise to the extreme. How far do I rotate it, and do I need to replace the arm?

Thanks!

column shift leaver is usualy pointed down ,like yours .floor shift ,like you need is pointed up. you can buy an after market shift leaver that bolts on and has an adjustable heigth so you can dial in the shifter throw .it clamps on the shifter post after you saw off the old leaver. seems like the last one i bought came from summit

found a pic of the shift lever i posted about. soory its a crappy image ,its from the Lokar catalog and didnt scan well. its the aluminum lever at the bottom of the page.
works great and you do not need to open the trans. it just slides on and clamps tight.
the shift rod can be moved up or down for correct adjustment
