I left my girlfriends and saw some guy in a bmw (never was behind him so I dont know what model) so i started messing with him. He was a tool and was like "O ur tough u want to get a ticket?" after I sped off. Normally I would agree with him but it was 1:00 AM and we were the only 2 cars on a road with trees on both sides. So I responded don't get mad because you bought an over-priced civic. We then went our seperate ways. Then I see those infamous corvette tail lights. It was a lime green probably around 2000 or 2001 C5. I was like what the hell he will kill me but it will be my first real race in a while. So then i got next to him nailed it to see if he was game. He nailed it and let me catch up. I caught up and we went from second gear.

Roll = Bad for near stock 5.0 vs. LS1

We raced through second and a little into third and he only had a half a car to a car on me but was starting to pull a little more.
Next race same scenario same outcome and then he sped off into the night
I wish I saw his face when I told him my mods. I say this because I have raced my friends 2000 Firebird Formula with just exhaust and a lid and its a lot worse then this guy beat me. Now he has a 150 shot but thats a whole different story. Maybe the C5 driver sucked at driving or something I don't know but it was fun. I wish I had a shot at him from a stop I prolly would have been able to hold him off through 3rd judging by his previous performance. All in all a fun safe night!

O Well time for a 100 shot of Nitrous!

Cliff notes->Safe fun night in which C5 wins both but a lot closer than presumed.

The guy probably couldn't drive or was babying his car. Second gear in an LS1 is brutal. They have a bigger intake side on the cam, which is where they loose the low-end, and they really start to pick it up around 35-40. That's why they accelerate downtrack so well.

If you would have continued into 3rd... you'd be watching his lights get farther and farther away from you. in 1st and 2nd our weight, torque and gearing alow us to "hang" with the stock ls1's, but by 3rd gear it is all over as they just continue to keep pulling while ours start to sign off.

Not in your case canary!

I don't think they would be pulling away from you anytime soon.

I think the C5, LS1 is about 340 HP, and a lot lighter than the LT1 300 hp the late year C4's had. From what I have read and seen, they can run mid 13's with the right driver..

I'm not debating the fact he would pull away. I knew he would pull away having raced my best friend who has a 2000 Firebird Formula numerous times which has an LS1 but he pulls on me a lot harder than the guy in the C5. That is what I'm saying. My friends formula has lid and exhaust. From all I can tell the C5 at least had exhaust. The C5 is lighter and more aerodynamic than the Formula so I was expecting to get pulled on a lot more but it didn't happen. Maybe my friends car is a freak. He might have been one of the lucky ones to get an LS6 engine. It could also be driver but from a second gear roll that limits driver error some what. He didn't sound slow on shifts and we raced about mid way through third. Who knows?

C5 not as fast as firebird in 1/4

I found this out from the corvette forum I used to belong to. A LS1 Firebird beat my vette in the 1/4 and I was shocked by this. The guys on the forum said this was quite normal. The birds are better at straight down the track running than a vette. They told me to beat a bird, run him around a twisty track :)

So i sold my vette and bought this stang. If a 18 year old in a camaro can stomp my vette, what is the point..

I have never seen a stock C5 run 12's!

That isn't right, they are not in the 12's stock. Like I said the LT1 Vettes, running 6 speeds, are in the 13's on a good day. The Ls1's are only about 40 hp more, that will not run a 12

I'll take your word for it because I'd rather believe your statement over my own :D

C% they can be close to 12..

Found this on the vette forum..

No offence, but 13.98 is kinda slow, unless you were running in very hot weather or higher altitude. I have personally witnessed a 100% bone stock 2.73 99 C5 running 13.3s at 105mph all day long, in 60 degree weather on a track at 700ft altitude.

My own car, a 275hp LT1 f-body, with 3.23s and A4, ran 13.74 at 100mph in 100% bone stock trim too (on a 60 degree day)

And I know many LS1 f-body owners who have run very low 13s, even automatic cars. I have a friend with a 2000 Camaro Z28 which is bone stock and has 2.73 gears and his car has run 13.2 at 105 mph too.

I figured someone on here must've run 12.9s completely stock, even if it was in cold weather.

C5's are a low 13 high 12 second car.
You are correct, sir. A buddy of mine has a C5 and he's running 13.17 in 60* weather. He has no mods. I think his gearing is different than mine (3.23) but it's an A4. He gives me a good run, so I put it down to weight difference. But that will change when I get my new verter installed.

Hi Al !! :D

Maybe it's just the track I go to, or most of the people that go there can drive, but just a few weeks ago, a guy had one of those little Cadillacs down there with the Z06 motor in it. He was running consistent 12.8's, 12.9's. I've seen newer C5's go 12.5 on drag radials (they may have been slicks), and I don't imagine those guys were great drivers.

Not trying to start a pissing match, but LS1's and even lightly modded LT1's can run their asses off.
